That's all very general and while it might be obvious that you expect him to "do better," it's not at all obvious what "better" means because you haven't defined it.

How do you measure performance? How does he rate on this measurement vs where he should be?

right I can see where this is going.

IMO he's been average, not ****, not great just ok. Over 50m quid should get you better than just ok... imo of course. I'll leave at that as we aren't going to get anywhere

I define average as doesn't score enough goals, get enough assists, make many telling forward runs or dominate enough midfield battles. Its a pity really because I thought we were getting a cracker of a player who excelled in all of those categories above. I think he doesn't really believe in himself anymore and certainly not with us.

If you look at the stats for our main midfielders last year:
                Wijnaldum 47 games, 41 starts, 6 goals, 0 assists
                Henderson 40 games, 36 starts, 4 goals, 4 assists
                Fabinho 39 games, 32 starts, 2 goals, 3 assists
                Ox 43 games, 25 starts, 8 goals, 2 assists
                Milner 37 games, 18 starts, 4 goals, 3 assists
                Keita 27 games, 16 starts, 4 goals, 3 assists

                Stats from http://www.anfield-online.co.uk/stats/lfc-stats.html

His stats on scoring goals and assists compare favorably with other players in our midfield when you take into account the number of appearances. Only Wijnaldum and Ox scored more goals and they started almost 3 and 1.5 times as many games as him, only Henderson had more assists and he started over twice as many games. By those first two metrics if Keita is average so are most/all of our other midfielders.

Forward runs and ability to dominate midfield battles are both rather subjective. Not sure exactly what you mean by dominate midfield battles to me that sounds more like a DM role such as a Hamann or a Mascherano type role, there are other wise to dominate a midfield eg controlling the game by passing game Alonso type role, but there are very few players who I would describe as both 'dominating midfield battles and making lots of forward runs' Gerrard being the obvious example but there are very few players who do both. IMO given that he has mostly been playing with one or more of Henderson and Fabinho I wouldn't be expecting him to be doing alot of the midfield battling I would expect him to be doing more forward runs and to be fair I would say IMO he has been doing that (as I say though these are subjective).

Would I like to see him getting 10+ goals a season from midfield? Of course, Do I feel he has neve got going in a LFC shirt? yes. But I don't think he's a bad player, he really needs a run of games, which before the restart he never really had. Before joining his goal scoring record was about 1 in 4, his record Las season when he started games was about that as well. The role he is playing here is different to what he did at previous clubs. I would hope that he can stay fit, get a run of games and show us what he can do because I believe that there is more to come from him.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

When you take into account the number of appearances you see that he hasn't been available enough. We need better. Same as Matip and shaqiri......... It doesn't matter if you are handy if you are never available

                    We need better?

                    Surely you mean fitter?

Any player coming in will get similar stats, as it is just the way our midfield plays. They do a very specific job, one that allowed us to piss the league. Be nice if Naby stayed fit. But when he does play he produces stats similar of not better than the other midfielders.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

                      When's he back?

Should be tonight. So technically he hasn't been properly injured since January.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Be good to have him back. Gives Klopp options (starting or on the bench).
                          Another MASSIVE game

I'd still happily sell him to afford a good defender. We have plenty midfielders.

The problem is we lose Gini too in the summer - and Hendo is 30, Thiago 29, Millie 376 etc etc. We need some yoof, innit?

There’s also Ox. Who genuinely does have availability problems.

Naby is way down the list of players in line to be replaced.
                                .
