If we get Keita in it may cost us another (hypothetical) target.
Isn't that the gist of your post?

If we don’t get Neita (or Lemar) we may not get CL footy next season. And that would cost a lot more. £15-20M extra doesn’t sound like much in today’s market.

Absolutely, we have to factor that in

However, what I'm saying is, we have been linked with others too and if this money was potentially the difference to closing that deal we'd be better off putting it towards them and getting both targets signed albeit still having to wait for Keita.

If that isn't the case, and there's no second realistic target then we have a more complicated analysis to make as we're estimating what the money might do for us on another deal that doesn't even yet exist.

Given, as you point out, the importance of getting a CL spot etc £12m might be easy enough to make a decision on (and I would be mightily relieved), but I've seen higher figures than that quoted and RB have seemingly stood resolute saying that he won't be going early.

In that context, if it turns out we can't do the deal I won't be sat here saying FSG should have thrown money at the problem with NO regard for the amount. Rather I'll bemoan the fact we found ourselves in this difficult situation to start with.

I don’t like the look of Spurs. We can write off Arsenal (perhaps) but we are in a fight with Yernited, Chelski and Spurs for 3 CL places. We can not afford to be a one season wonder. I think we need to invest now to try to ensure we are still attractive to top players come July...

It's basically a 4 month loan. So if it is say 12 million that is 3 mill per month. Not great value really.

And how much is CL qualification worth?
This year it was £11.5m just for getting to the group stage.

And we've apparently got £105m burning a hole in our pockets.

If Klopp wants him now then stump up the £10m or so to get him here early.

Keita's discipline this season has been poor, sailed close to another red before being subbed. Maybe this is the price to pay for more steal in midfield.

As for getting him in early, I think we need at least one more midfielder to last the season but it can't be at any cost. We're losing about 40-50m if we don't get fourth so I'd be surprised and disappointed if we don't strengthen before the window closes, it's too much of a risk to stick, even if that means overpaying on a player by 20m or so.

Did he stand in the middle & wave to say thanks & goodbye to the crowd as he was subbed off today?

Considering Coutinho and Can are both going I wonder if the club are working on signing someone else completely to bring them in now for our midfield. It definitely feels like we need another starter in their anyway. May as well spend the extra cash on another player knowing that we have Keita next season no matter what.

Sorry to break it to you... One of those has gone already.

Yeah, I think the midfield needed a few players anyway before he left. Arguably three with Can also going. Coutinho isn't going to be replaced by one player but we could improve as a midfield unit with a different set of players.

It'll be interesting to see the midfield line up next season. It'll be very different to what we see tomorrow.
