A DM also helps us control games more (ie in midfield - something we've been lacking since Alonso/Mascherano).
    spot on.
this will really help us wrt the bus parkers who then hit us on the counter.
fab as the deepest midfielder, covering the open space whenever everyone else is in the other half to quickly win and feed the ball back in.
klopp doesnt need/want/play with a DM, yeh ok, but even he has seen the need.
looks like he will take hendersons place, so will henderson play as part of the more advanced two with keita? i dont think henderson has the drive anymore, if he ever had it.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Klopp played with DM's at Dortmund, and Henderson's played as a DM for 2 seasons now under him. Fabinho is an upgrade on Henderson, and should displace him.

Our Champions League Final midfield will hopefully be our back-up midfield next season, with Keita being the upgrade on Wijnaldum, and hopefully, another midfielder (Fekir?), being the Coutinho replacement.

Klopp is often criticised for being inflexible with his system, yet within the framework he has frequently mixed his midfield selection to create something different in there

You have to remember Emre Can played / rotated with Henderson and Wijnaldum and I reckon Fabinho fills that gap left by Can going whilst also adding a different player to what the rest of the squad offers

although i have never been an avid dortmund watcher i have read that kloppo did play with DMs there.
the deeper role of henderson is indeed 'someone' covering this position, but henderson is the least likely person to ever be a true DM. he rarely puts in a hard tackle, much preferring to chase someone down and try and put a toe on the ball and break up play.
i saw some stats showing the tackling of fabinho compared to our current midfield, ****ing embarrassing to say the least.

fab/monaco, compare with henderson, widjnaldum, milner.

After his deals over the last 2 windows we maybe should have a little more faith

With regards to Fabinho its an interesting move because it seems to me a change in tactic as Fabinho looks more like a disciplined holding player than a guy who presses all over the pitch
I know you’ve been banging the drum about signing a DM (like many of us) and this guy is arguably the best we could have got. A proper DM and not a deep lying play maker like the ones we were linked to. His height and physicality will help him no end.

Now when teams break us us we will have cover and another guy battling for second balls. Having him will allow Naby to play his natural box to box game so the balance to our midfield will be very good if we also use an AM such as Fekir/Ox.

Finally he has great experience at a high level and won the title at Monaco so he’s not done prospect to develop, he is already a starting 11 player.

Am very happy with this signing.

A DM doesn't just have to be good in the tackle though. He can have excellent positional sense and ability to press at the right moments, but also able to release the ball in tight spaces. Henderson cannot do the last part, and he can do the former two parts at a decent level. There are certain times when the opposition are direct (Hazard in the home game), where opponents can waltz though our central midfield with such ease.

Fabinho upgrades us all in all three areas. However, since Henderson is the most developed in terms of covering the DM role, he'll be the cover there.

                        Its a strange one this

If you had asked me earlier on in the season I wanted a dedicated DM to play week in week out

                        Not so sure now

What is needed though is a player of this type in certain games and during certain periods in games

Theres times we go all out and hit a brick wall (West Brom & Roma away) and I think someone like Fabinho would be great to have in the squad to bring on give a bit of energy and grit

I am not saying that is all hes been bought for but there is times when we have needed someone to physically take charge of things when the tide starts to turn

he certainly has that, but he can also run box to box when the space is there, so a versatile DM.

Loads of clips of him bursting into the penalty area in that City tie highlights clip.

Looks like another really shrewd signing.

I liked reading that he's only missed a couple of games through injury in his entire spell with Monaco too.
