4-2-3-1 FORMATION
The first difference to point out is that unlike 4-4-2 and 4-3-2, a 4-2-3-1 has four rows of players, rather than three. A 4-2-3-1 allows teams to absorb pressure comfortable and then launch forward aggressively. It’s got balance and flexibility.
The defensive unit, which is made up of two Centre Backs (DC) and two Defensive Midfielders (DM)s, is often referred to as the ‘double pivot’. Once the ball is won thanks to the double pivot, the full backs (DL and DR) can bomb down the wings and know that they are covered by the DMs. They’ll often look to cut inside and combine with the No. 10 Attacking Midfielder (AC), nominally the most creative player on the team who is comfortable both dribbling and passing quickly.
The 4-2-3-1 comes unstuck when the opposition full backs push high up the pitch, pinning the wingers back into their own half and rendering the formation a 4-5-1 with an isolated striker. You also need to make sure your wingers track back. If they don’t, opposition wide players can easily overload your defence.
Use against: 4-4-2
It was spoken about on Irish tv during the game last night and other examples of teams using this season for some games and last season were Man City ( when they played us a few weeks back) and Juve (last season and this against big clubs in the CL)Last edited by Doc_Piptorious; 25-10-18, 10:44 AM.I don't hate people. Two DMs and two CBs means that when the team attacks there are six dedicated attackers (the two full backs, the AM, two wide men, and striker) in the main attacking unit of the team, but when the team defends the main defensive unit is also made up of six players (four man back line plus the two DMs).
Another way it would be a double six is that both the DMs play in what would be seen as the Number 6 role (box to box DMs of a sort in our case and keeping the passing mostly simple and effective), so a double six in terms of the midfield being made up of a number 10 and two 6sLast edited by Doc_Piptorious; 25-10-18, 11:32 AM.I don't hate people. Interesting one this, horses for courses for each game i'm sure but this is also how Naby is used to playing, and Klopp did play it a lot with Dortmund (if i'm not mistaken?). I can see us maybe evolving into playing with Fabinho-Keita in some games which i'm excited to seeOriginally posted by Buzzo View PostThe

Yeah, fits a lot of our players well I reckon. Sturridge can play in that in either the 9 or 10 (bobby or Mo) position. Mane and Salah can play in wide and CF positions. Lallana can play in that... Fabinho knew when to drop when big Vurge or Gomez went on a rampage.Originally posted by wiw View PostInteresting one this, horses for courses for each game i'm sure but this is also how Naby is used to playing, and Klopp did play it a lot with Dortmund (if i'm not mistaken?). Perfect really?
The 4-3-3 seems to have been found out a bit (other than defensively where we look solid af whatever), and really works best when we break quickly, when a team sits in we can get over run in midfield with Salah and Mane not really that effective at digging in.Modifying post.

There was another one about his forward passes and final 3rd passes, but can't find it.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
