I thought NP looked pretty quick for a big unit.

He went past TAA when chasing back at one point, even though Trent started with several yards on him.

You're telling me if you had the chance to upgrade him you wouldnt take it? And if Phillips suddenly started pulling out better performances, you'd still ignore it?

One game. Mentioning titles won isnt a thing. Lovren won a bunch with us too. But then again Gomez is 3 months younger. Clearly hes head and shoulders above.
Not blaming Phillips, but if you look at the goal again, Phillips was a bit of a headless chicken during the move, wasn't sure what position to take and mistimed a jump to clear the ball, impeding Gomez view.

If Phillips was a better option than Gomez, I'd have no hesitation picking him ahead of him, but I can't make that judgement based on one game.

Gomez biggest issue for me is staying fit. When fit, he's an excellent player and played a key role in many of our best defensive runs.

And the fact that he's 3 months younger is significant IMO. Unlike an 18 year old just breaking through, there was no reason not to pick Phillips ahead of Gomez in the past, other than ability. Both players have the potential to improve massively, but again IMO Gomez has a much better platform to build from and a much higher ceiling.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

        Nat, Yeh one game, etc...
If he gets a run then surely he will settle in as he learns the movement of other players, he will surely improve.
If he can be more robust than gomez or matip then he will be a certain starter.

Think he is a better option than Williams.

Thought he has played quite well so far... No worse that Lovren.

Saw someone say he was Harry Maguire without the hype - personally I think he’s better

Watch Edwards sell him for 20m in the summer now

He's old school and not good enough for us - but happy to see him perform for us during this difficult period.

He's been great these two games but you get the impression he's performing out of his skin and there's a big **** off howler dying to come out.

Couple of times at Brighton I held my breath thinking he was about to give a penalty away. His aerial presence is a massive plus though, given how our team has shrunk exponentially recently.

He loves a good leap he does. Wouldn't fancy him in a foot race and his passing is "safe" which is perfectly fine when we're in the **** with injuries but he ain't ever going to be near the 1st team in a usual season. Good luck to him though, I'd be over the moon in his boots.

Adding a few million to his transfer value and getting some good, top level, experience to see him through. If he could maybe grab a goal from a corner, then that's a tale he can tell his grandkids one day!

Even when we have all the A team back we will always need decent back up, especially given the biscuit content of gomez and matip.

Good enough to stay as a 4th choice?

Obvs fabinho can step in as DM, but with a decent 4th choice (alongside vvd or matip) then fabinho is free to resume his midfield duties.

Tbh I don't think so. Sounds harsh given how well he's done but no, not for me Clive.

Surely he needs to move somewhere to get first team football, he might get games here this season because of the injuries, but when everyone's fit he's probably 5th choice at best (after VVD, Gomez, Matip and Fabinho). At his age, 23 now, 24 by the time the season ends the harsh reality is it's time to move elsewhere. Hopefully he can leave having picked up a PL winners medal
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
