To be fair punditry is literally about talking on subjects with the benefit of hindsight.

We could have told Diaz we were looking to build the team around him for the next 3-4 years and he’d have stayed.
    Modifying post.

It's not just that. Surely a pundit is meant to be an authority on the topic they are discussing and have the ability to dissect facts and explain why a thing is how it is, how it was, how it got there and how it may evolve in the future.

Though it does seem at times that it has been dumbed down so much that all that is needed for a viewing audience is some inane as **** soundbytes that they can then go and parrot themselves in the pub or wherever.

All the likes of Richards does is laugh like a fool and appeal to the dumbest of viewers that need their opinions given to them.

The man, an ex footballer, struggles to discuss even the most basic things regarding how to control a ball or the simplest of tactics.

You can't say he would have stayed with any certainty. Maybe he would, but maybe he just fancied a change. He's won the lot with Liverpool, so why not try a new league out? He's got no affinity to the club, he's not local, not a boyhood fan. Heck, even boyhood fans want out sometimes. But at least we got a fee for Diaz.

The premier league is no longer a league for wingers. Doku is probably the best the league has to offer and he’s not that great. There’s no point lusting after players like olise because they’ll look like olise did in the PL.

At the time, nobody seemed that bothered about Diaz leaving, quite a few were obviously a bit fed up by his Dads constant flirting with Barca and his form had been a bit patchy.

Can’t remember but was there an expectation that Gakpo would be fine or were we being linked with more appropriate replacements?

Yep that was pretty much it last summer. We had Ekitike, Wirtz and Isak come in and the talk was about how Gakpo and Salah would, along with Wirtz, supply the bullets for Isak and Ekitike to fire.

Plus there was a lot of talk about Ekitike rotating on the left with Gakpo.

The same moron Richards was, after we won the first five games, one of those on about how the league was already over and how our new signings were great business. Think Ekitike scored two or three times in thos games and Salah and Gakpo scored a few times as well.

Was no mention about how selling Diaz was awful business.

Things then went to **** and as with most times things go badly (and to be fair it applies to most teams) the players that were sold or that were out injured suddenly get lauded as being what would have made all the difference.

And if we are on the up and up next season, the same missing saviours will not get a mention.

Pretty sure most of us thought that we needed to upgrade of Diaz and Nunez in terms of their quality going forward, and thought we’d done that with Ekitike and Isak. We haven’t replaced their diligence and doggedness in tracking back though. Nunez did clear a lot of corners to be fair to him.

Also it was Richards’s screeching that persuaded me to stop listening to Lineker’s podcast. He might be a nice guy and can’t be as stupid as he sounds but he’s unbelievably annoying.

He's alright in small sound bites but I'd have to leave the room if I was in his presence.
