    In the PL so far

    Salah - 11 goals and 7 assists

    Nunez - 4 goals and 5 assists

    Jota - 4 goals and 0 assists

    Diaz - 3 goals and 0 assists

    Gakpo - 2 goals and 0 assists

Seems of our front five, it Salah or Nunez are not setting up another attacker, none of the rest are doing so.

And looking at the rest of the squad our next best assist getter in the league after Salah and Nunez is Tsimikas with 3 assists
This needs context added to it as well though. For example, how many appearances they’re each getting, minutes in the pitch etc. And also the fact that, as the central striker, there’s a slightly bigger onus on Nunez to score the goals. This has the potential to become an issue in January when Salah isn’t here. The others need to step up and at the monent, none of them have a body of evidence that makes you fully confident that they will.

The issue with Nunez is that he fails to convert good chances with an alarming frequency. The same cannot be said for the others.

      Not quite true.

Salah is coming in at close to having a 25% conversion rate and is chipping assists too.

Jota, who many call clinical, has a conversion rate of about 14% so not that much better than Nunez with his 11% or 12% conversion rate but unlike Nunez he is not adding assists. Nunez has something like 150 to 200 more minutes this season. He is also played as a 9 when he gets game time so can be directly compared with Nunez.

Diaz does not have a great shots to goals conversion rate either. He comes in at around the 11 or 12% mark so is just as wasteful as Nunez when it comes to taking chances when he has a shot on goal, but even if we cut slack for not being a central player, he is not feeding Nunez or anyone else with assists.

Gakpo in terms of shots to goals is also coming in at around the 12% mark and like Diaz and Jota is not racking up any assists when not scoring. He is also a low volume shot taker compared to all the other attackers.

So we basically have four attackers who regardless of attacking position have a very similar conversion rate when they do take a shot, but only one of those four is adding to the goal tally of other players by contributing with assists.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Penalties also heavily skew conversion rate

I don’t think conversation rates account for the quality of the chance, do they?

Sometimes the best measurement is one’s own eyes. Darwin, unfortunately, is missing a lot of “easy” chances, which the others aren’t. Not the same degree anyway.

Aside from the easy chances, my eyes say Nunez has played way better than Gakpo. Hes really not up to scratch in any department.

This is exactly the issue with those kinds of statistics. If these were hard chances I wouldn't be so critical. Surely it has to be a mental issue. Remember those goals against Newcastle...

The Newcastle game is keeping Darwin in contention conversation wise.

It doesn’t matter how hard the chance is, the numbers is for all chances. His goals v Newcastle might be low xG so he massively over performs but easy misses balance it out
