Haaland's numbers look better because he's banging them in but his contribution for others must be dire

Since arriving at Liverpool, Núñez hasn't always found the back of the net, but he's endeared himself to the Anfield faithful with his relentless running and desire to put a shift in. Núñez is eerily reminiscent of fellow Uruguayan Edinson Cavani at his peak. Cavani was often accused of being too selfless for every team he played for, running himself into the ground and covering ground all across the final third, rather than focusing on scoring goals. Núñez is guilty of that himself, yet at the same time Klopp recognizes in Núñez the massive potential still be realized.

There is a chaotic quality to Núñez that is difficult to find in the modern game, but of course his main job is to score goals, and Klopp believes that he can eventually morph into a world class operator. Núñez then scored a goal of his own to essentially wrap the game up near the end of the first half. He now has four league goals in nine games so far; it took him until mid-November — and seven games more — to reach the same tally in his first season.

Nunez has been playing a lot better, and still produces his comedy missed sitters. Good entertainment value.

I will always prefer Gakpo, who has played less, and been played out of position or while not 100% fit. I think he links play far better than Nunez and works better in the false 9 role. I just happen to think he is a top quality player.

That said Nunez is producing goals and assists, and deserves his place in the team. Id be trying him back on the left, with Gakpo in the middle playing him in.

Problem is, I think Salah works better when playing through the middle too, no longer having the pace to run down the line and cut in. Forward line does feel a bit narrow at times, as Jota also is far more effective in the box too. But I guess that doesnt matter if they are all scoring.

I wonder if the improved midfield means we have less need for a false 9 as the creativity is provided from the midfield and we will play with a more out and out striker on a more regular basis, probably meaning more game time for Nunez and Gakpo having to find minutes elsewhere in the side?

Im loath to change a system that worked, tbh.

Our system broke down when the midfield lost its legs and could no longer press or find space. Id prefer we went back to that.

I wasn't criticising, I just thought he'd scored more league goals for us this season. Maybe it's because he's been so involved in all goals.
