Rugby (both codes) is a great game to play and watch.

If you want the real meat-heads and crunching tackles then watch League - while Union is slower, greater emphasis on kicking, and highly tactical.

To say that there is no skill involved in Rugby is, frankly, laughable.

...and like Mums mentioned one absolutely fantastic point is that you can watch the game in the stands with a nice pint, standing next to the opposition fans.

I saw "Jerry" Guscott on the telly yesterday talking about "pace in Rugby Union is of the essence - top level Union is all about pace".

I nearly fell off my chair laughing.

Well that is correct - like virtually all sport, you are hindered as a player if you don't posses any pace.

Some of the best Forwards are those that can carry the ball at pace.

And it goes without saying that if you are a Back, and don't have any pace, then you'll be found out.

Of course it is. Even Football has its detractors as well!

              Both are usually ignorant fools.

My Grandad is quicker than most rugby players. I suppose he means "comparitive pace" - i.e you need to be less slow than the other fat ******* who'll be chasing the egg.

Granted there's been the odd "speed merchant", like Rory Underwood and one or two others, but there's no way you can describe any of those fatties as possessing 'genuine pace'.

Rucking and mauling - it's so beautiful!

Shaggy, I am now 100% convinced you are on the wind up now

"Fatties!" I don't think you'd have said that if you up against a 21st Barrie McDermott as he's bearing down on you - at pace.

Apart from kicking a randomly-bouncing egg through some massive posts, please enlighten me on this fantastic skill I and millions of others must be missing.

Rucking? Mauling? Throwing a ****ing egg backwards? Is that skilful?

It's basically chess played out by a load of fat, homo-erotic, hoorah-Henrys. It elicits zero passion on the streets of Britain.

Oh the irony. "You wouldn't call a 21 stone bloke called 'Barrie' a fat c*nt" - oh yes I would. Bearing down on me? He'd never ****ing catch me.

Wasn't Keith Wood able to run the 100 meters ridiculously quick? 12 seconds or something like that?
Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

How many people on this site could catch the 'egg' when launched at you by a scrum half in a reverse spin pass?

So "catching" is this skill I'm missing is it?! Well blow me down!

I'd guess the only people who couldn't catch it would be Red_Hot, Mumsafan, Lady Red, Danielle and one or two others. Only girls can't catch, whether it's an egg, a cricket ball or a football.

People who call the game have obviously never played it. The disipline of positions in Union is frightening.

Me thinks Shaggy never used to like playing Rugby at school - I think he's got a phobia!

P.S. I'd like to Shaggy you outrun 6'0+, 16st plus Mike Tindall
