    Le Tour

So Le Tour starts today with a short 5 mile time trial and we have a decent chance for a winner in the first stage in David Millar. The Tour itself though (IMO) will belong to one of the following:

Alexander Vinokourov who can put last years dissapointment behind him and has a cracking chance.

Christophe Moreau is the French favourite and he'll have the support of the nation. He's getting on a bit now at 36 but has recent wins with the Dauphine Libere.

Dennis Menchov has won Le Tour De L'Avenir and at 29, he's the right age to take it. He's a tidy climber and has not bad on the flats and should be pretty consistent. He came close last year finishing in the top 10 after fading in the final 7 days which will surely not happen again this year. As an outside bet of the 3, I put an each way on him.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

Vinokourov for me as he's the best when they'll reach the climbs.

Now, form has to get into it also.

      So possibly Moreau then?

I just got back from London. A fantastic day and Cancellara was brilliant.

            CSC in yellow!

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

The fat tyres slow me down. And the ones on the bike don't help either.

Kloden's time was amazingly good. It really reminded me of how Armstrong used to take time out of his rivals on the Prologue/Stage 1. Remember a few years ago when he took a minute out of Ullrich? It set the tone for the rest of the Tour - it was his to win from that point.

I'm not saying Kloden will be that dominant but it sends a real signal to the rest of the peloton including his teammate, Vino.

Karpets and Vino are well-placed, Menchov too. Even Leipheimer might manage something. Cadel Evans is also in with a good chance of the top 5 and has to be regarded as a contender for the overall.

I don't think Moreau stands a real chance - he won the Dauphine because he was trying for it and not worrying about how it would affect him for the Tour (or so he says) unlike the rest of the top men there. Even then he had a bad day in the time trial and I think would lose too much against the top guys. He'd be better off doing a Virenque and trying for the polka dot.

Cant disagree with any of that.
Ive a feeling Leipheimer will have a good tour. I hope Vino gets treated better than he did at T-mobile.

I was there too and had a great time. Although I had to climb the fence to get into Hyde park!

Ahh, new **** has come to light. This goes some way (but really, only some way) to explaining why the fat middle aged couple I saw on the tube today were both in cycling attire.

And with that image lodged firmly in his mind, Polo goes to bed for a night of restless sleep.

The best 'all rounder' will win Le Tour. Kloden's a good bet, as well as Vinokourov.
