I agree, Kloden and Vinokourov aren't out of it yet. I'd say anyone in the top 13 could win it + Vino. Either of Pereiro and Zubeldia could podium too.

I was impressed by Moreau today. If he can maintain his form he's a real threat because IIRC he's a better time-triallist than most of them.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

It was really impressive. He seems a really nice bloke.

Sastre and Schleck were both pretty impressive in patches today. Sastre timed his attack on Astana well. I don't think Schleck has the experience or strength to really mount a challenge but he followed well today. Much like his brother in the Giro - he never attacked the eventual winner, Danilo Di Luca, but he kept up with him well and ended up on the podium. It's possible Franck could do the same.

Another very hard stage today. Two big mountains and high temperatures. Some of the sprinters will have problems making the time limit. Hushovds trainer is concerned he may not make it.
If any of the big favourites are on form today this might be the stage to mount an attack. If the favourites have an off day Rasmussen might get enough on them to mount a serious attack on the overall win.

I think there will be attacks among the favourites but nothing too much. Today is another wearing down day, try to weaken your rivals' teams, etc. The 37km run from the top of the Galibier down to the finish will probably negate a breakaway from the pure climbers although sometimes the rest day can stiffen up the muscles so they're likely to test each other out just to check everyone's OK.

              Live coverage starting on Eurosport.

I'm going to miss the end of the stage due to my daughter's riding lesson. Well, what's more important?

                Stuck at work.

Add to that the fact that we get 35 kms of descent before the finish, therefore by the time I come back home, the suspense would have been over.

I can see todays stage being a break away pack of around 5-10 without any real GC contenders invovled. The long run in from the top of the climb will prevent someone like Rasmussen or Mayo making any real time due to there relatively poor descending ability. Maybe Chavanel will try to put some Polka Dot points on the board.

On another note I was really disappointed with Valverde, Evans etc on sunday they had a prime oppurtunity to put time into the Astana riders but were to busy playing cat and mouse. I have had Valverde for the GC since the start but if he does not shape up tactics wise I can see it ending up in the hands of someone like Contador or maybe Kaschechkin who are both able TT.

this cycling lark is almost as exciting as the cricket

A man peddling is in the lead, closely followed by another man peddling and another man peddling

                        lovely stuff

They're over the top of the L'Iseran. Popovych (DSC) has 27" over Lefevre (BTL) and Soler (BAR) and some others who are 1'03" ahead of the rest.

(Or is it Popovych who is 1'03" ahead of the peloton? Sorry, don't know.)

If you're going to peddle smart remarks get your spelling right. It's "pedalling."

And it's tons better than cricket. They don't stop when it rains for a start.

Popovych has passed the first climb ahead.
