Try telling a wrestler that they're not an athlete. You'd get a well deserved smack in the mouth. (Possibly even a real one!). These guys deseve respect for the punishment they put their bodies through. (Even if the results might be prematurely forecast).
Either way, RIP Crush. You were awesome in the early 90's. especially when you remembered you were Hawaiian and needed the thickest accent after months of speaking normally.

They are not athletes.
it is very simple. no one is saying what they do is easy but its not sport and it doesnt make them athletes. very fit hard working entertainers maybe. but not an athlete.
according to the oxford english dictionary an athlete is
noun 1 a person who is good at sports. 2 a person who competes in track and field events.
Now wrestilng isnt track or field is it. And being good at wrestling would make you good at other sports.
according to the OE this is sport
1 an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others
now where is wrestling falls down is the competition.
If wrestlers say it isnt sport why do you?

I take your point mate. If you go by the definition of sport as playing against each other, you're totally right. We all know that when two wrestlers oppose each other they're technically partners. But I think you'll agree these guys put a lot on the line to produce these 'shows', and it would be churlish to suggest they're not proper athletes.

i obviously dont think its churlish as the definition of athlete shows they arent.
At no point have i said they are not in supreme condition and they work very hard. they are and do both of these but it doesnt make them athletes or make it a sport.
iall i am saying is its not a sport. i cant see why it causes offence with people when wrestlers say it isnt a sport.

**** definitions! Wrestling isn't sport but wrestlers are atheletes. Period.
From your definition, you're saying that boxing isn't sport, because it's not on the track or in the field? See where strict definitions bring you?Torres Fan Club Member #2, Lucas Leiva Fan Club Member #1
