Calzaghe v Kessler thread pt. II

Rather than bump up the other thread - I thought I'd start another.

The fight is just over a week away now - and by all accounts should be a cracker. Haven't seen much of Kessler - but he's very highly regarded and will come to fight.

So what's the vibe? THe general feeling how the fight will go? Who's the favoutite in the betting?

And how many tickets have been sold?

Eastside boxing estimating that between 35,000 - 40,000 tickets sold.

As for the fight it should be a cracker but it's almost impossible to choose a winner.

      Good evening, Les. Nice holiday?

I think that, and I hope I'm wrong, Kessler will beat Calzaghe. I don't know why and I have absolutely no way to substantiate that claim. I just feel the Kessler will win.

      Are you thinking of going?

As you all know I am a big Calzaghe fan, but to be fair Kessler does have the potential to beat Joe. I think the difference will be in experience, home status and the big fight mentality Joe has going for him, so, and I am trying hard to be completely un biased, I think Joe will do a number on Kessler and stop him in rounds 6-9.
I am absolutely certain that this will not go to points as Kesslers style is oldschool, come forward and slug, when the fight is taken to him, remarkably similar to calzaghes mentality in all honesty. Still it will be a good, maybe great, fight. Cant wait.

I can think of somebody else who'll never benefit from my generosity.

              Don't you start an' all!

Did I mention that my missus wants to go and see Amir Khan? She loves the boxing and wants to go and see him fight. His next fight with Graham Earl is only down the road in Bolton - but as all of Khan's shows are promoted by Warren (as opposed to the Derry Matthews fight which is in conjunction with Warren ) I cannot see myself going. Shame really coz Khan puts on a good show.

I'm a big Calzaghe fan too and have followed his career for many years now.

Although I don't know that much of Kessler I feel it will be a very close fight with Joe winning with a stopage towards the latter stages, maybe round 7-10.

Calzaghe is the bookies favourite @ 1.76 and Kessler @ 2.52 on Betfair, but I may have a little bet on the winning round with Betfair currently offering Joe to win in 7 through to 10 (individually) @ 38 and Kessler @ 44.

I read somewhere the other day, can't remember where, that they've sold 60,000 tickets.

So basically all the home fighters should win as they'll be facing somebody who's taken the fight at short notice. Way to go Frank!

Enjoy the Calzaghe fight Kaip - I'd love to be there with you but.........

However, Cleverly’s opponent Joey Vegas has a record of 10 wins and 1 loss and is currently the British Masters Champion. Vegas, a native African who boxes out of London is a good, strong, tough fighter and expected to put up a hard fight to maintain his winning streak but on the night I expect it to be another night for the Newbridge boxers with them all winning with ease and class.

Enzo Maccarinelli will defend his WBO cruiserweight title against Mohamed Azzaoui, the unbeaten Algerian, on Joe Calzaghe’s bill in Cardiff on November 3.
