Cannot understate the significance of this win. India outbowled and outbatted the Aussies in the WACA fortress. Sach, Rahul and VVS showed that adaptation of technique to suit the surface was possible. Australia may rue the decision to play four fast bowlers as it damaged the over rate forcing Ponting to bowl Symonds and Clarke for a session.

Absolutely pissed myself when part timer Sehwag bowled Gilly round his legs --- Priceless! What a win.

Agree bar Kumble. Surprises me how so many go on about this though. Expecting our sports stars to be models of perfection. The fact is, it is their arrogance and overconfidence that gets them to the top of their sports. To expect them to change their ways when they make it is unrealistic.

I can see why people dont like Ganguly and Harbhajan but Kumble??? Nicest guy in the team along with Sachin. He's modest, diplomatic and mature. His behaviour as a captain constrasts sharply with that of Ponting.

Say what you like about Ganguly, but along with John Wright he forced India to step up a gear and cast off their post-colonial inferior mindset when facing the likes of England and Australia. He took over in a time when India players were still picked on the basis of their home club, religion, birthplace rather than talent (see Agarkar). The newer generation of players such as Pathan, Yuvraj, Harbhajan and Zaheer were introduced/developed during his reign.

The newer, younger players are the sort that dont take any **** anymore, so expect to hate a few more in the future. They've been brought up in a time when their country is becoming a major economic player and accordingly they are becoming bullish in their outlook on the game.

Funny thing is that when the Aussies curbed their hard approach to the game in the WACA test, they lost. Makes you wonder how much of their game is dependent on sledging and intimidation. The cracks have appeared on the juggernaut...
