    UFC 79 ** No Spoilers **

Anyone had a chance to watch this yet?

Decent-ish undercard with the highlight being

    Lidell vs Silva

    Main event

    GSP vs Matt Hughes.

If anyone's not seen it yet I think it may be on Bravo later tonight.

I will be watching tonihg tmate
I havn't missed a UFC event in years, apart from when I went to the Hatton fight.
Two interesting main fights to say the least.
I see Liddell and St Pierre winning.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Both main events tonight were great to watch.
Chuck looks to have rediscovered his confidence and range, even threw in a couple of takedowns what heart Silva has though, he knew he just couldn't give up, and I am sure the UFC will reward him with some more big fights.

G.S.P. showed the MMA world that he is argueably the most rounded individual in all of MMA. He should be able to take out the tricky but beatable opponent in Serra when he fights him again.

GSP dominated Hughes. Which is good to see. Hughes is a wank of the highest order. I'd like to say however GSP is a better fighter than he is break dancer

As for most rounded UFC fighter? It has to be Anderson Silva.

This is the first decent UFC event in a few months. The last couple have been poor especially the Michael Bisbing main event.

What has happened to Tito, has he been booted or is he injured, Phil Baroni doesnt seem to take part anymore, does anyone know why?
Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.
Those that killed her, were following the law.

I was going to mention Anderson Silva, just think that St Pierre is a better wrestler, although Silva's standup and clinch work is untouchable, while GSP stand up is world class, Silva's level is just that bit higher (on his feet).
            Close call really.

GSP seems to have moved to an even higher level than ever. Matt Hughes, once untouchable was made to look very ordinary. I suspect if GSP maintains this level of finness he will remain there. Silva is a monster and is currently the top dog in UFC. I cant see many getting near him in the near future.

Tito, not sure what the deal with him is, he seemed to lack motivation in a couple of his last fights, or his cardio looked bad from what I can remember, maybe he is enjoying living it up too much.
Liddell schooled him and Evans drew with him, which is not particularly impressive, nothing wrong with getting beaten by Liddell, but he should be beating Rashad Evans every time.

Tito has one fight left on his contract and is in the process of negotiating a new deal, it always takes ages though due to him and Dana White hating each others guts. He'll be back sometime next year. Look for a the long awaited re-match between Tito and Wanderlai Silva sometime before the end of 2008.

Don't know if any of you guys watched the recent Ultimate Fighter Finals. But that was an awesome card. The Clay Guida Vs Roger Huerta main event was the best fight of the year!

As for the Phil Baroni. I think he fights for EliteXC now, he recently lost comprehensively to an aging Frank Shamrock....the UFC is now way above his level. One guy i've heard may come back before too long is Matt Lindland, who is probably the only Middleweight out there who has a shot at taking out Anderson Silva. Evan Tanner is making his comeback this year as well, i don't think he'll be involved in the title picture but it'll be great to see him back as he's rarely in a dull fight. Bisbing is dropping down to middleweight as well which should help the division.

The one guy i'd like to see change weight class though is Lyoto Machida. He's so small for 205 fighter, if he dropped down to middleweight i think he would have a great chance against Anderson and would certainly be a force at that weight, he's already taken out Rich Franklin with ease!

Isn't Machida fighting out of the same stable as Anderson Silva, if so, I wonder what impact that would have on a possible meeting between the two. I was actually thinking this last night when watching his fight, but I think Silva would take him anyway.

I watched a repeat of the utimate fighter finals, yes agree the Huerta fight was awesome, Huerta showed great determination in the end, after pshing his luch for two full rounds. I particularly like the fight with war machine in it, despite him being a tosser. He showed great apirit and determination, both fighters did actually.

The best event for a long, long time.

Machida looked impressive. I've seen Sokoudjou fight a couple of times and he looked strangely out of sorts, but I think this was all down to Machida's completeness. He didn't have an answer. I thought Yamasaki made an error in making the two fighters stand in the first when Machida was clearly working Sokoudjou on the ground and out of the two you'd think that Soko would have been the one to throw a wild knockout punch, but it didn't matter, he was taught a lesson.

Liddel v Silva was everything I hoped it would be. Two legends throwing wild punches, I just couldn't believe that it went the distance. Chuck may be back, but mark my words, neither of these two fighters on this evidence have anything to worry Jackson. A great spectacle, just what the UFC needed.

GSP looked more focused than I've ever seen him. He's becoming my favourite fighter. So much talent, so athletic and fast. I think I heard that he's only been taken down once in the UFC! Incredible. I'm sure he'll do Serra next time. He's been training with the Candian wrestling team and you can see it. As Hughes himself said last time, GSP is the future of the UFC. Matt looks set to retire now which will be sad. He went down in my estimations when GSP lost to Serra, but he fought with class and lost gracefully this evening. I used to love watching him slam fighters around the octagon back when he was THE man and he has the best intro music in the UFC. Times have changed though but whilst GSP is about he'll never win the title, just as IMO Liddell will never regain the title from Jackson.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

Believe it or not; GSP has spent only 60 seconds on his back in his last 95 minutes in the cage! An amazing statistic when you consider the quality of opposition he's faced in that time.

Good post, I agree with all your points. I do want to see Matt Lindland back in the UFC, the guy has fantastic cardio and is an awesome wrestler, he will push the best of his division.

I lost respect for Matt Hughes after his moaning as trainer against Seerar.

I wouldn't necessarily say that neither Silva or Liddell can win the Light Heavyweight title off Jackson.
I seen JAcksons last fight against silva, Silva destroyed Jackson, absolutely destorey him, and looked a different fighter stylistically that the Silva we seen in UFC 79.
Liddell will always have a punchers chance, his long storng arms will always find their targets, I would find the rematch hard to call personally, despite Jackson having two wins against Liddell.
I would like to see more of Machida, he did look good though, but I don't think he will be Light Heavyweight champion anytime soon.
That was the best G.S.P. I have ever seen, focused is absolutely the correct word. The chap has it all.

I think Hughes, after getting the opportunity to see his popularity falling after the reality TV series for being a prick, is actually trying to be a nicer guy.
