true, but once Sachin passes lAra's record in test runs, is there any point in keeping him in the squad?

Have you watched the sri-lanka games?
He has batted well just lacking that bit of luck.
I wouldnt be suprised if he makes a big knock in the final test.

to be honest I have not (dont have Zee)
but from the scores I have seen he has not hit anything big. We cant keep on flogging him till he dies. If we keep on playing him (andf the other old boys) what will happen when they all quit? we will have a potnetial vacuum of talent and a even greater amount of pressure upon the young guys coming in, not only to perform, but the match up to Sachin and his acheivements. We were lucky that Sachin broek the standards that Sunil set, but we need the new talent to come through now.

I don't how you can say he is past it if you haven't watched him play in this series.
Its like me saying Ngog is a **** signing because he scored 1 in 18 but i've never seen him play.

no its not as Ngog is a kid coming through, whereas I may not have seen this series but have watched him over the past couple of years. Ok he will hit the big scores now and again, but do we wnat him to end up like Lara and remember him as a shadow of his formself, or should he step aside in the near future and be remembered for being the greatest of the modern era? his shoulder and elbow injuries have hampered him and even you must admit seeing the likes of Panesar and Anderson get him out with average balls is quite sickening. Maybe its me but I dont think he plays pace as well as he used to do, but that could als be down to his injuries.

He was ace against England last summer, although he kept getting out in the 90's!
Cant remember if we had any tests after that....
And in the ODI he got himself back to the 1 ranked batsmen in the world last/this year...

So for you to say he is out of form/past it, is way of the mark.

He has got a few starts against Sri Lanka but some great bowling from Mendis,Murali and Vaas has been his undoing. He looks in good touch and if you watched any of the tests you would know that...

                    Now skip along...

Milky you're too blinkered. Time for the old guard to move along and give the youngsters a chance. He can't have been unlucky in 4 innings. He's been on the decline for a while and should go out a hero and step aside for the likes of Yuvraj, Raina, Sharma etc

4 bad innings make him past it right...

He maybe on the decline compared to the past standards he set for himself but he is still a great player. He is a winner and a great role model to have in the dressing room. If Rafa was a cricket coach Sachin would be his ideal player. Maybe he should be phased out slowly but his experience will be invaluable especially when playing in difficult pitches overseas.

I think right now the only player who looks moderately capable of replacing him is Rohit Sharma. We got lucky with Sachin that at 16 itself he was capable of taking responsibility. Ideally I would slowly blood Rohit Sharma by making him play alongside Sachin in either number 3 or Number 5 for couple of years.

Also while im on the point....

Sachin is ranked 16th in the test rankings...Not bad for a player who has had a long lay off and hardly played this year.
                            6th in the ODI's.

                            He is my idol

                                Did we lose?
I can remember playing SA in Ireland in a few ODI's before we played England in the summer (probably because we won!)
