Cavendish wins again - in the Vuelta today.
60 professional victories. 60. He's phenomenal.
He's also only the second rider to win a stage in all three Grand Tours (Robert Millar being the first).

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Contador banned for a year. It's not a surprising verdict and the punishment seems pretty fair overall.
It's a real blow for cycling's image I suppose - if there's a crumb of comfort to be had it's that at last even the top riders aren't untouchable..

You know, at least they go after these cheats. A lot of other sports just let it slide, or hand out minuscule punishments.Originally posted by Neil Young View Postif there's a crumb of comfort to be had it's that at last even the top riders aren't untouchable. On the Ning Nang Nong

Yep, although the more I find out about it, the less clear-cut it looks.Originally posted by ningnangnong View PostYou know, at least they go after these cheats. A lot of other sports just let it slide, or hand out minuscule punishments.
Cycling has had a terrible problem with doping for decades. It's hard to think of a sport where it's been so rife, so organised, so endemic.
As you say, the authorities do seem to be doing something about it but it's interesting how much of the investigations actually come from national organisations rather than the UCI. I'm not convinced the UCI really wants clean cycling - I think it'd be happy with 'clean enough' cycling, so long as all the financial interests, including its own, are satisfied.
But at least they are getting some of them and Contador being banned is on another level to anyone before..

He might be clean.
But it's all very unsatisfactory..

I was considering training for the Tour de Tablelands but I realise I'm way out of shape!.
