Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

This wasn't actually a serious suggestion worth debating Neil, but if you really want to know.... linky.

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
      Mine angry and defrauded young?

Yes, yes, I know. The city though was Las Vegas. So my suggestion wasn't so stupid.

They're only coming back in the odd silly thread.

I was going to just post but that pic is too good not to use.

Anyway well done for learning the difference between a cat pic and a dog pic.

I'm actually coming round to shaggy's viewpoint in that beating a field of 160 players consistently for years on end is phenominal
Potentially because the majority of golfers seem not to have learned the lessons of Woods success such as becoming a real athlete etc. It is always possible that the amount an individual stands out from the crowd is a function of how poor the opposition is rather than how great they are. Federer exists in an era when there is at least one player of comparable talent (Nadal) whereas Woods doesn't - the existence of the other does not make either Federer or Nadal less 'great'.
