Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

This wasn't actually a serious suggestion worth debating Neil, but if you really want to know.... linky.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostI did that but I've never heard of him. I thought Chris Moneymaker might be Johnny Vegas' real name. Or the other way round.
And where was this event held?
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

They're only coming back in the odd silly thread.
I was going to just post
but that pic is too good not to use.
Anyway well done for learning the difference between a cat pic and a dog pic.

Potentially because the majority of golfers seem not to have learned the lessons of Woods success such as becoming a real athlete etc. It is always possible that the amount an individual stands out from the crowd is a function of how poor the opposition is rather than how great they are. Federer exists in an era when there is at least one player of comparable talent (Nadal) whereas Woods doesn't - the existence of the other does not make either Federer or Nadal less 'great'.Originally posted by wiw View PostHow is it possibly less competitive? At the end of the day they've both dedicated their lives to a sport and become consistently better than thousands of others in it
I'm actually coming round to shaggy's viewpoint in that beating a field of 160 players consistently for years on end is phenominal"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
