No real overall change, other than the fact that Cadel Evans is no hope now.

It was fantastic to watch Armstrong ride over that gap up to Contador, Schleck, Wiggins, Kloden and Nibali.

Speaking of Wiggins, he looked very comfortable today, staying up top with the big boys.

Decent stage. Good riding from Pelizotti.

As for the overall, it's a process of wearing down. See if anyone cracks tomorrow on the five climbs. And, if they don't, we'll see how tired that makes them for Annecy. And so on until the top of Ventoux.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Pity about Voigt. Nice bloke. I met him a couple of times. Very chatty and sociable. We didn't talk though when I rode with him a couple of weeks ago though.

        True stories.

Voigt crashes out of Tour de France

            * Tuesday, 21 July 2009
            * Stephen Farrand, Nigel Wynn, Cycling Weekly

Jens Voigt (Saxo Bank) is in a stable condition after a high-speed crash on the descent of the Col du Petit Saint Bernard.

The German hit a bump in the road and lost control of his bike, throwing him to the ground. He landed on his face and slid down the road in a shower of sparks as his bike skitted along the tarmac.

Voigt was flown to the university hospital in Grenoble where an examination on Tuesday night revealed that he fractured his right cheekbone and is suffering from concussion. A statement issued by Saxo Bank said that Voigt will remain in the hospital for observation.

Voigt had recovered enough late on Tuesday to issue a message to his team: "I think I was very lucky not getting severely hurt from today's crash. Now I hope that you can focus on the race and I wish you all good luck with the hard stage tomorrow”.

Angel Gomez Marchante (Cervelo) also crashed on the testing descent from Petit Saint Bernard. He suffered multiple cuts but managed to finished the stage.
I saw the crash, it looked horrible.

                  Extremely unlucky as well.

Anyone but Jens Voigt deserved to crash like that. The guy does so much work for his team, his determination and commitment is second to none.

Well, Wiggins has dropped down a few places in the standings after the Schleck brothers set a rampant pace going up the mountains.

They couldn't break Contador, although they never really tried. Contador did try to attack at one stage leaving Andreas Kloden struggling. If i was Kloden i'd be fairly disappointed in my teammate.

Armstrong once again proved he's still got it, breaking away from Wiggins to catch up to Kloden. It's great to see him fire up and ride with such desire.

Massive credit must go to Thor Hushovd. Broke away over the first two climbs of the day to gain 12 points in the battle for the Green Jersey.

Hushovd is a great rider, much better than Cavendish.

Good race today. Contador was very impressive and Andy Schleck rode really well.

All set for Saturday for a massive fight for third.

Saturday will be the 'Mont Ventoux', arguably the toughest climb in the world bar none. Look at those gradients.

Aye, it'll be a cracking day. Can't wait.

I'm really surprised at just how much Contador has improved his time trialling ability over the past few years.
