Probably a stupid question, I know, but I have only watched something like 13,5 seconds of cricket in my whole life... Nobody plays cricket in Norway, and nobody watches it either.

So, a little info would be much appreciated, as I'm stuck at work for twelve hours on a saturday and this place is quiet as hell today
      Here's the wiki article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ashes

Basically it's a series of 5 Test matches played every two years rotating between Australia and England. The name 'The Ashes' comes from when Australia beat England for the first time at the Oval.

A news paper had a headline that English cricket had died and the Ashes would cremated and sent to Australia. A urn was made said to be containing the Ashes of English cricket and since every two years these 5 matches are played to gain the Ashes.

        Thanks x2

        Interesting, liked this bit:
The series is named after a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, in 1882 after a match at The Oval in which Australia beat England on an English ground for the first time. The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia. The English media dubbed the next English tour to Australia (1882–83) as the quest to regain The Ashes.

If we can bat until tea then declare with a lead of 400+ we will have two days to bowl them out which is more than enough time. Strauss out there but there is still plenty left in the middle order to do more damage.
