Of course it is possible. Hence me having said things like

Though I am not sure if being a moron is enough of a defence for a person to be saying horrible things for a number of years.

If a person is moron, they still need to be made understand that words can have an impact and if they want to continue to be a moron after attempts to explain why some things may be offensive, then there still has to be accountability for what they say.

Is not like I am saying he should be shot or put in a gulag. Well I am not going to openly say that anyway


Personally I think he may have some very small minded views with regards to people he regards as foreign or different to him, and the fact he has made comments over a sustained period right up to present times, rather than it being comments from years and years ago, suggests he is become more entrenched in a certain mindset rather than figuring out better ways to articulate his pov or simply learning to accept different cultures/nationalities and/or see a bigger picture.

Time will tell I suppose. He might be a moron, he might be xenopohobic, he might simply be a bit ignorant, he might well be very immature for his age, he might be all of those things, some of those things or none of those things.


Did hear that he thinks Elden Ring is **** and that those that like it are a bit **** too. He says folk that love Sniper Elte are boss though.

Oh yeah of course there are clear cut cases of proper derogatory one-superior-race type ****s and that's straightforward. I had a quick look about Paddy Pimblett and I honestly don't know if I'd classify his comments about that guy not representing the UK or England or whatever cos he wasn't born there as racist in the same way as someone has unchangeable - and inferior - characteristics based on race. He's obviously a bit of a ****in clown and a bit ignorant but I guess here's an example of of where I'm reluctant to call someone a racist. Stupid, ignorant etc sure but is it evidence that he thinks one race is superior to another? Dunno. This is me potentially having another Tommy Robinson moment btw...

Well he did suggest that the Georgian people were in some way inferior to the Russians and did make comments about immigrants in the UK and threw in the usual staple of immigrants being unable to speak or spell properly in english (ironic of him to comment on their ability to spell once you read some of his tweets )

For me a person might make one or two mistakes when talking about another culture or race, especially if one does not have much first hand experience, but most people tend to own a genuine error when they make it and not double done on comments and/or go on the attack when called on their comments.

His comments are open to interpretation of course, and that interpretation will differ from person to person, but for me I think if there is a pattern of two or three years of similar comments then it starts to stop looking like simple ignorance and more like the signs of an entrenched pov.

I might be completely wrong, I might be right, or I might be having a staring contest with the cat on my lap whilst trying to type.

Look on the bright side though, Mr Retired for the 257th time McGregor is back talking about fighting again so we will have him back to distract one and all.

I'm not sure a professional mma fighter in his 20s is beyond redemption in terms of saying stupid stuff. It's when you're in your 50s and 60s - a la Trump and Brexit voters - and you're still seeing the foreigners as the problem but for some reason thinking that Jacob Rees Mogg and the ****in Trump family understand your pain that maybe they ship has sailed. I've definitely pulled back from labeling people racist or homophobic etc and it can land you in trouble in some cases but I equally tired eventually of a left wing habit of calling everyone a fascist and anyone who went to college in the 90s knows exactly what I'm talking about. In my life I've met some really decent people who held abhorrent views and the biggest ******s I've ever met was at a Godspeed You Black Emperor gig. Mind you, I'd imagine there's a hell of a lot worse at any ufc event so who can say ffs. In fact it would be my vision of hell but that's just me.

And I am saying that when called on his comments he seems to not be learning from people being offended by what he says and instead tries to either double down on the insult or call them names for calling him out.


I really would not be using the likes of Trump as an example though as he showed plenty of racist and sexist behaviour from a young age so Trump is an example of how a young guy can keep those views for life and not change at all as he ages.


As for you pulling back on calling people racist/homophobic, for me it is actually a simple process sometimes when deciding if a person is racist or homophobic because usually the guy or girl making homophobic or racist comments in a derogative manner is a homophobe or racist and if they do not want to be called either then stop acting like ether.

It is a bit like being dead. You are either dead or not dead, you cannot be a little bit dead. Same with the person who makes racist comments in a discriminatory manner, you cannot just be a little bit racist if you do so.

Those tweets yeah, hes an idiot. But its lack of education and society to blame as well. Its the reason people like him voted for Brexit. I think casting everyone into a big hole, calling them racists is the wrong way of going about things personally. Education and understanding is needed.

It gets to be a problem when people like Conor McGregor are using that to promote fights. Thats when its knowing and done to provoke.

To a degree yes. But at what point does some self ownership of one's own views and actions come into it?

It is not all on education and society to teach simple right from wrong.

He is able to speak with a degree of knowledge on topics he is passionate about, so that suggests he does educate himself to some degree with regards to what he talks about.

He has been called out for racist comments in the past, he has been called out for xenophobic comments, he has had social media acccounts closed.

Has he stopped and actually changed anything he says? No everytime he is called out or barred from a platform, he goes onto another playform and blames those who called him out, he blames the social networks, he calls people snowflakes for challenging his words.

He has seen how people react to his comments, he has seen that they offend people, but his reaction is to call them more names.

He is a grown man being told time after time that he is being offensive, at some point the blame falls on him and not on society for how he decides to act and keep acting.


Some people can change, the majority of people I believe, some people can be educated so that they have the ability to self evaluate and at the very least understand why some might find certain things offensive and then debate rather than dictate when it comes to expressing their opinion.

However not everyone is redeemable, imo, and at some point they become a waste of resources, resources that could go towards helping another person, and just reach the point of being seen and judged for how they speak and act.

A lot of what Plimbett has said are comments about immigrants in the UK, and not crass trash talk to an opponent.

Whilst I find the trash talk done by some boxers, MMA folk and others to be a mix of cringe and ignorant at times (and that is being kind) I was not slagging him off over that. I was talking about when he felt the need to go on twitter and take the time to compose tweets slagging off people for being immigrants or slagging people off because of a country they are from or just blaming the ills of society on immigrants, then after taking the time to type it, he then had to go look for the post button and click on it.

I would lay money that if any poster on here started, in a serious way, mocking immigrants, starting saying things like go back to your own country, started blaming anyone who looked foreign for the bad stuff in the country, then that person would rightly be booted. I am very confident that every mod on this site would not stand for it.

Plimbett on the other hand has a much greater profile that almost everyone on this site so his words can be seen by more and as a sports person he will be a role model for younger kids. So for me he should be judged to a standard that matches the potential reach of his words. It's not like he was just being a bit of a prick and having a being a dickhead moment same as the rest of us have from time to time. With him there has been a number of comments referencing race/nationality/immigrant status and so on over the past two to three years so there is much defo a pattern to it and not a simple once off heat of the moment blow up.


Put Plimbett on the canvas and he is a talented fighter, no doubt about that. McGregor on the canvas was a talented guy as well. But if they want to say stuff away from the roar of the crowd that crosses into being the sort of stuff that if we heard someone like Trump say it we would be outraged, then they should be called on it and not defended because they were great in the ring.

A more extreme version would be someone like Carlos Monzon in boxing. For me he, inside the ring, was one of the greatest middleweights in the history of the sport and arguements could be made for him having been the best (I disagree. Surprise surprise ), however he was a savage animal of a human being outside the ring. A truly disgusting horrible man whose legacy as an all time great boxer is rightly forever tainted by the man he was and to be honest the man should have been in prison rather than being able to earn a fortune in the ring .

Not saying Plimbett is on that level, but if he wants to go and make xenophobic or racists comments, then whilst it is his right to express his own opinion however he can then be judged on what he says and treated no differently to anyone else making such statements.

No, everyone who voted for Brexit is not a tory. Same way everyone that supports Chelesa is not a tory but that does not get questioned when Chelesa supporters get called Tories in here.


I'm sure there are plenty of non tory idiots maybe who did not use the tiniest bit of common sense to wade through the very obvious lies that were being spun by the tory government and the likes of Nigel Farage.

Being a bit tongue in cheek with the paragraph above, I am sure there may be people who voted for brexit that thought they were voting for the right reasons. I'm not sure what those reasons were, but am sure they seemed valid to some folk at the time.


As for Pimblett. He is a prick from the same school as McGregor. Makes little comments about nationality, race and so in in a derogatory manner and then tries to delete his tweets after he says them and then falls back on calling anyone that is offended a snowflake.

Is not as though it has not been reported a number of times over the past two or three years what he has been saying let alone older stuff. Most of his comments have been in 2020 and 2021 so not exactly historical stuff being said by someone when they were a kid or whatever.

Some of his really obnoxious stuff I would have to dig for but it is not for no reason that he got barred from the likes of twitter for his comments.


Quality lad though because he says a few things we might like as LFC supporters. Seem to recall Joey Barton saying nice things about Hillsborough and helping a few charities too. Should we regard all of Barton's actions and nasty comments as things to be written off under the "nobody's perfect" way of thinking too or could it be that really ****ty people are capable for saying or doing decent things along with the bad stuff?


Give me a sports person like Andy Robertson over pricks like McGregor, Barton and Pimblett any day of the week.



And to further touch on the nobody is perfect bit. I would suggest that if a person spouts off any mix of xenophobic, homophobic, racist and other such hate speech past the age of being a child, then chances are they are showing you a glimpse of their true nature and of their ignorance.

Used to quite like the guy until I saw his racist and xenophobic comments on his social media.

He seems to buy into a lot of the nastier side of the pro Brexit arguements about how it is nasty non white immigrants that cause a lot of the UK issues with regards to under founding for the NHS and homelessness.

Look on the bright side Paddy "the baddy", you don't need to earn lots of money to say you have a lot of things in common with Connor McGregor.
