Cancellara is awesome. (I'm using the term in the traditional way, not the American surfer/stoner way).
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

        Absolute carnage on yesterday's stage!

        Some crazy scenes.
        On the Ning Nang Nong
        Where the Cows go Bong!
And the Monkeys all say Boo!
        There's a Nong Nang Ning
        Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots Jibber Jabber Joo.
        On the Nong Ning Nang
        All the mice go Clang!
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
        So it's Ning Nang Nong!
        Cows go Bong!
        Nong Nang Ning!
        Trees go Ping!
        Nong Ning Nang!
        The mice go clang!
What a noisy place to belong,
Is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!

          Yes.

I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise for bringing down Millar and Basso. I got overexcited.

The Tour needs moments like that to liven it up

Watched almost the whole stage yesterday (while doing the ironing and sleeping a bit too tbh) just to see them all crash in the end.

                    Bonkers.

I do think the Tour is maybe getting a bit gimmicky with some of the parcours it chooses. It's not alone in that - the other Grand Tours do it too. It just gets a bit random, like when they crossed the Passage du Gois a few years ago and Zulle lost time because the road is under the sea half the time.

Perhaps team plans are so meticulous these days, and of course all the riders are in touch with the DS, so the organisers try to introduce a few random elements to make things less predictable.

Actually, that's not a bad idea - they should have a stage where there are random elephants all over the course. That'll shake things up although Cancellara of course would simply ride over them.

Of course he would, he's used to elephants.

Circus elephant escape act in Zurich

                      BBC News, 7 June 2010 21:09 UK

An elephant that escaped and wandered through Zurich's banking and commercial district has been recaptured, Swiss police have said.

Officers tracked the circus animal for an hour until a keeper was able to bring it under control.

Cancellara's decision to slow the pace was normal, considering the crisis being faced by his teammates, the Schleck brothers. By easing his group's pace, the next group containing Armstrong and Contador was soon able to catch them. With about 15km to go, the Schlecks made contact as well.

Soon after, as the finish in Spa neared and Chavanel was riding towards a celebrated victory, Cancellara - assuming the role of patron as he was in the yellow jersey - dropped back to the car of the Tour's competition director Jean-Francois Pescheux to inform him of the peloton's decision to soft pedal in.

The decision was accepted by Pescheux. He said Cancellara told him the peloton felt they had had enough crashes on the descent and did not want more in the finish. He said Cancellara added that the decision was made because a number of major sprinters were still adrift of the peloton.

They included Italian Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre), American Tyler Farrar (Garmin Transitions) and Briton Mark Cavendish (HTC Columbia).

An official communique later explained that: "Because of the exceptional number of crashes in the peloton and the serious injuries after the descent, in the spirit of sport there was a general regroupment by the riders.

“They crossed the finish line without contesting the sprint. At the request of the peloton, the jury - in agreement with the race organisation - has decided to award the points [for the green jersey] only to the stage winner."

Points only awarded to the stage winner.

Not everybody was happy with yesterdays decision by Cancellara, Hushovd included.
Tyler Farrar is out with a broken arm, a some of experts had him as favorite for the green jersey
