Commentator just said one over left before lunch - is 'lunch' a few hours and then they're back?

I take it you're not sticking it out for the middle session?
Nah I'm off to bed at lunch. Lunch lasts for 40 minutes, so they'll be back out at 2.40am for another two hours, then tea, then the evening session.

To be fair, 2 hour 'blocks' or 'chunks' isnt too bad at all.

Gone to lunch now, England 135 for none. Good going.

Just as it's getting good, it's time for bed

Yeah exactly, some people think it's an all-day slog, but it's only three bursts of two hours of play. You can really sink into a day's Test match cricket.

Bed time. I'll be up with laddo at about 7am FFS, my turn tomorrow. Reckon we'll be about 300-4 by then.

I can really see how people can spend a whole day, a sunday for example, just lounging on the sofa and getting absorbed into a test match

My only complaint is the fact that it's in Australia, meaning 11:30pm/midnight starts

Why couldnt i have got into this during the last ashes? Least that was in england

Cheers for educating me and being patient i can imagine my ignorance could've been frustrating

              Have a good night

Got up early to watch some or this. Great effort from England.

You don't really. You spend the whole day watching test cricket and doing other stuff. It's not like footy where you need to watch every second, you can watch bits and pieces and still enjoy and take in.

If anything remotely special happens the crowd roars and you switch your attention back to it.

We had another day out with the kids, we were taking 'em to watch Harry Potter at the movies.

So my day went along the lines of...

"I'll save us some money dear, you go in with the kids, I'll occupy myself until you get out of the pictures". Direct to pub.

"I'll take Matty home out of your way whilst you do shopping with the girls dear." Got home, rolled some smokes and watched for an hour, by then nice and half cut and just sat and watched and drank more.

                  Result.

A very pleasant day of nothing much besides watching cricket. At parts relaxing, at parts exciting, but generally just a good day. That's cricket boiled down to it's essence for me.

It's kind of like Christmas day would be if your family left you alone for some peace and quiet But maybe that's me just making drunken associations.

What an effort that was by England 309-1. Looking good and hopefully we can kick on and go for it tonight.

Hehe been out shopping for a new bed today. Pulled up outside the bed warehouse at about 12.00pm. England 0/54.

Couple of hours later, very comfortable new bed under the belt, come out and turn on car radio, England 0/183. Oh ****ing get in.

Spent the rest of the afternoon watching us compile in the company of the same Aussie family members who were giving me all sorts of **** during the bleak Hussey/Haddin partnership.

1/309. Thank you very ****ing much.

                        Oh I do.

Obviously I totally take your point and sitting on your arse watching a full day's play is a luxury (when you've got kids anyway), but I do it often. Love it.

What a superb recovery. Taped it from 6am so got up and watched most of the evening session without knowing how it ended up. This will feel like a win for us, and a loss for those Aussies who've been chirping so much.

The tables have turned as its now the Aussies are on the backfoot with no referrals. If we come away with a draw from the Gabba that will be a hell of an achivement considering the position we were in before last night.

Quite incredible stuff from our openers, simply superb, and totally..if i'm honest....unexpected, but that's sport..and why we all love it.
