I wouldnt say its a risk unless the aussies have a good bat and we completely collaspe in one/two sessions.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI suspect this is the most realistic way for england to win. Risk losing, to win.
If not, it's another draw.
Although Stauss is probabl thinking the aussies have to beat us in this series so 5 draws is acceptable.

Craig, when they change over to bat they loose 3 overs of play which can be the difference when it comes to bowling out the tail of a team (the last few batsmen who are generally ****). I assume they are trying to bat long enough to make sure Australia don't have a chance of reaching their score, especially while they have wickets in hand and batsmen who are established (despite the day break). Guaranteed they will come out and swing at everything until the lead is 400 or 450 and give themselves a day and a half to bowl out the Aussies. 450 will easily be enough as the Aussies will be out to defend for a day and a half left.96 Never Forgotten

Got the last bit though - and the concern has to be that the 'day and a half' may not be an entire day and a half, what with rain forecast.

Ok, so when a team gets out in a test 3 overs of the day are removed. This obviously lowers the amount of overs the English will have to bowl out the Aussies. The English will be wanting to maximise the amount of overs they have because the Adelaide Pitch is known to be very good for batting.
So the English will come out tomorrow/tonight swinging the bat to get some quick runs to give themselves enough time to bowl out the Aussies.
They will also be hoping to put together a score which the Aussies won't reach, because then the Poms would then have to bat again, leading to that loss of overs and risking a draw as they have less time to reach the Australian score. Basically its about quick runs and getting the Aussies in with time to bowl them out.
What you will see is one of two things, the Aussies defend all day and you guys take 5 or so wickets while players like Hussey and Katich play very defensive, or the Aussies collapse and you guys winning the game with an innings to spare.96 Never Forgotten

The Aussies are low on confidence and when they go in to bat will have no intention of trying to rattle off the runs to get in front and even think about winning the game. Survival is what it's all about and if we put them straight in we have two days - weather permitting - to bowl them out. Warney is saying the same and he obviously has his contacts in their dressing room so I'd say it's likely they'll want us to carry on batting. As Beefy said last night, you only have to give them 10 minutes notice if we're declaring. So tell them 10 minutes before play begins that they're batting. Get your pads on lads, sharpish.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
