I think we'll be cautious - probably put them in either side of tea.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostIt is amazing how many Ashes tests go into the last day full of intrigue. Will be interesting to see what Strauss does tonight. Bat until after lunch and stick them in for the last couple of sessions with a lead of 250/300?Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I think that will be the case. We can build up a lead of say 250 to 300 runs then put then in at tea and see what happens knowing that it will be hard to reach our score with only 2 hours of play left.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI think we'll be cautious - probably put them in either side of tea.

I think Strauss is basically a cautious (avoid defeat) captain, and in this instance only getting the draw will be a blow for the Aussies. Since Siddle's hat-trick they have fancied the win, and until yesyerday been on for one.
But if the lead is enough, and they could get put in earlier it would make for a sensational last couple of sessions.Modifying post.

I can't see England taking any risks - realistically they can't win it but they can probably still lose it.
So long as England don't lose three wickets in the first hour then it's going to be a draw and that's good enough in Brisbane. To Australia it's almost going to feel like a defeat and England will have momentum.
Botham is a boring commentator..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

In Strauss' defence I think he's every right to be cautious here - we don't need to chase it as a drawn series will be enough so **** it.
Move on to Adelaide.
Botham's easily my least favourite. Atherton is brilliantOriginally posted by Neil Young View PostI can't see England taking any risks - realistically they can't win it but they can probably still lose it.

I quite like Nasser as it goes, and Warne is good value as well. All in all it is a good team, Botham is a bit boring, but you have got to have Beefy there really haven't you!Originally posted by Rich View PostGower and Atherton for me, Botham's ok but a bit grizzly. Bumble I don't like and Hussain is a bit non-descript really.
I would like to see a hybrid SKY/BBC team with Aggers, Tuffers, Vaughan, Blowers, Boycott et al. included!!!
I admire the commentary in cricket as it is no holds barred, if they see something they disagree with they call it and get stuck in.Modifying post.

Yep, they're not afraid of upsetting their mates - and they are all pals with the players. Yet in football they just don't do that...as well as being completely thick, inarticulate and not insightful in the slightest.
I think cricket lends itself to detailed analysis possibly more than any other sport, and it's so nuanced that these guys - who immerse themselves in cricket every day - know infinitely more about the game than blokes like us....and so a lot of what they say is informative and insightful.
Whereas football's just a joke. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I am going to watch the first hour or so, but you can only really see the match ending in a draw... But I wouldn't bet against England getting skittled for a lead of 200 or so and a tense last couple of sessions.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostMonday tomorrow then, and the game almost certain to end a draw - anyone staying up?
