completely shattered this morning after staying up to watch that last night but must admit i got emotional at the end as well. scotlands pride andy murray!!! what a summer of sport and what a summer for andy - wimbledon final, olympic gold and silver and now the us open! i curse the fact he hit peak at the golden era of tennis. mcenroe had borg - sampras had aggasi - federer had it all his own way - murray has djokovic, nadal, federer and younsters coming through like del potro and lopez to contend with!

      well done sir andy murray

Got about four and a half hours sleep last night

        Worth it though.

        Well done Andy Murray

Well well, Andy Murray, Grand Slam winner. Honestly never thought he had the mentality to do it, but he has proven by winning Olympic Gold and now the US Open that he is a Champion. Credit where its due, he has proven the doubters all wrong, big time.

He really has proved everyone wrong, and the manner in which he won made it even more impressive. To beat an on-fire Djokovic, who'd not lost in his last 27 hard court encounters in Grand Slams, over 5 sets, is phenomenal.

This is a massive monkey off his back, so he should be confident and able to really push on and add a few more slams to his name.

Superb. Made up for the lad.

Really thought when it went 2 all that it was going to be same old same old, but really made up for him, not really sure why, probably the stick he gets for being a failure, failure!..ha!

I think that was one of the finest sporting occasions I have ever witnessed.

So happy for Andy. Every negative thing that has ever been written about him, well, he proved it was all wrong last night.

No-one will ever win a first grand slam in a tougher way than that. He played sooo well in the 5th set. I'd mentally given up on him winning after Novaks comeback, but he dug so deep and looked the stronger player and fitter man in the fifth.

Amazing, amazing stuff. And good to hear him talking about pushing on in his career from here.

                  Legend.

They made a great point last night - the other 'big three' all won their first slams against players who'd never won one. Federer v Philippousis, Nadal v Puerta and Djokovic v Tsonga. What a way to have to win your first - v unbeatable Djokovic in five.

It'll be fascinating to see how Murray kicks on from here. Surely he'll win a few more. With Federer not having too long left, and Nadal increasingly ****ed, the Murray v Djojkovic rivalry (both just 25 too) could really intensify.

I'd forgotten about Novaks recent hard court record.

I just looked up the longest rally of all time

The longest women's match (by time) took place at a tournament in Richmond, Virginia, in 1984, when Vicki Nelson took 6 hours, 31 minutes to defeat Jean Hepner 6–4, 7–6(11–9). The match featured a 29-minute, 643-shot rally, the longest in professional tennis history.[9] This match is also the longest professional match completed in a single day;[10] the Mahut-Isner match was twice suspended by darkness, lasting three days.
