Even Sachin's not out against Pakistan in the World Cup semis is a farcical prediction from the hawk eye. It was clearly going to hit the stumps but surprise surprise hawk eye says no.

The usual hit rate for hawk eye is around 95% and it is a very costly software to use. So with the kind of not so good acuracy it has, BCCI felt they dont want to use it.

Hot Spot on the other hand is a bit cheaper and has a lot more accuracy than hawk eye. More over hot spot shows what has happened where as hawk eye predicts, much like the umpire does.

So, the BCCI felt the umpire's guess was more respectable than hawk eye's.
You mention most of the critical decisions wrong yet also 95% hit rate using Hanweye ?

It works out the same for teams when it's being used and the software is clearly available as it's been shown already (the plum decision not given for Sachin earlier)

As it is, the 5% of the predictions it gets wrong are the most crucial ones. For eg; the ball lands on a crack or if there is unpredictable wind, it doesn't take into count 'the swing' properly.

Hot spot on the other hand has something like 99.5% accuracy.

      There's a huge difference b/w 0.5% and 5%.

Most of the players asked the BCCI to analyse the hawk eye predictions further on awkward pitches and it's predictions were very random is what I heard.

Sure it gets some decisions over turned like the ones today where Gambhir and Sachin got lucky with but in general it isn't as reliable yet for the cost it takes to use it.

        Umpire's had a shocker there.

Broad gets one absolute plum LBW... Not given.

Morgan dropped a catch ball before.

India very much riding their luck....

He's bowling well, but is having chronic luck...
He's making opportunities putting pressure on batsmen and letting others mop them up...

He looks much more effective now he is pitching the ball up and letting it swing, he was bowling far too short and became predictable

Great result and all round performance and a cracking start to the series

                    Great result.

I predict the next test will be a belter. India will be hurting after this one.

i missed today. it took a bit of adjusting to a test match as opposed to limited overs.

i do love the commentary though. Did anyone watch when Botham and bumble were looking at London Zoo and bumble thought some ravens were penguins. When a pigeon appears bumble says there is an elephant.

also when they watched some park cricket when the wicket keeper wasnt looking and got hit by the ball.

whilst i know the pace of footballs means its different i would love football to learn something from cricket coverage

Not true, the full DRS system has improved decision by between 2 and 3% (it was already high). It works, we should be using it.

Crazy that India have refused it. Though it looked like it was going to help them yesterday for a while. Stuart Broad would probably have taken 5 wickets if DRS had been available.
