Spirit of the game certainly applied because it was obviously an error. He wasn't trying to get a run he was clearly heading off for tea. What next - bowlers stumpung non strikers pre-delivery?

I think the thing is that it was about the spirit of the game in the old fashioned sense. It was the right outcome, no way should they have tried to claim that. I could not believe my eyes. Careless from Bell but even an Indian fielder thought it was tea (fella in the slips who picked the helmets up). I thought it was tea. To claim that was an absolute nonsense and major credit to Dhoni and the rest of the team for realising how embarrassing it looked and reversing the decision.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’Comment

I'd heartily agree with that. I think to claim it is pretty much the way of professional sportsmen 99% of the time though. I honestly don't think many other teams would've bothered trying to claim that. Some might've clipped the bails off out of habit but I can't believe many would've pursued the dismissal. I thought Dravid's interview at the end was sheer class - there are some classy guys in that team and I wasn't surprised they withdrew it.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’Comment

It was Bell's error, you stay in your crease unless otherwise told. He claimed then retracted he heard Over being called. Bell decided he was the umpire and started walking off.
The Indian fielders knew the ball was still live, and thus stumped him.
For a poor decision see Collingwood claiming a run-out against Grant Elliott after he had been knocked over by Ryan Sidebottom taking a single.We come not to play.Comment

SSN has been running through a load of similar 'gentlemenly' actions today and included Tevez supposedly not celebrating scoring against West Ham. Not a patch on Fowler against Seaman IMO. They also showed Stiffler alerting the umpire to an incorrent decision in a match against Fernando Verdasco. It was at match point in a game he went on to lose
