More points in these sprints could make up for the lack of points when the group caught the pack

Why?Originally posted by NigelLG View PostWell they sprint for longer in the cycling. It's entirely different. They don't have the advantage of a team to help them in those races so they have to watch each other.
While they're going so slowly they're practically at a standstill, why doesn't one of them just sprint off while the other one's ****ing around going slowly
Other fella would never catch him.

Just ****in knock off 90% of the distance and sprint from the start ffs. Or else apply it to the sprints in track as well - big game of prowling around/hide and seek before the 100m and then all of a sudden one of them just goes hell for leather for no apparent reason.Felching ≠ Gerbilling

Exactly. Scrap the ridiculous prowling

If one of them start sprinting, the other will follow suit and stick right down behind and will spend less energy by just following and will more than likely win at the finish. So, it's a game of cat and mouse, much like when two breakaway riders finish in the tour de france or any other race. It's the same there when they're down to one v the other in a straight finish.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostWhy?

Why don't they do what every other form of sprinting does, be it running, horses, whatever. Just sprint from the start and scrap the lunacy.Originally posted by NigelLG View PostIf one of them start sprinting, the other will follow suit and stick right down behind and will spend less energy by just following and will more than likely win at the finish. Especially as the rider that dispenses with the silly tactics and just races off always seems to winOriginally posted by Shaggy View PostWhy don't they do what every other form of sprinting does, be it running, horses, whatever. Just sprint from the start and scrap the lunacy.

Well if you leave horses running without any jockey they'll probably be sprinting for a 4000m race until they're blue in the face and they'll probably finish the race at a canter.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostWhy don't they do what every other form of sprinting does, be it running, horses, whatever. 100m, 200m and 400m sprints in the track and field is different, it's a straightforward explosion of speed for that distance. Cycling is more tactical, as you basically cannot 'explode' for say 1km. So it's about timing and knowing exactly when to reach your optimal speed. Cavendish for example, is a master of it.Are we winning?
