Floyd Mayweather v Miguel Cotto - May 5th 2012, MGM Grand Garden

Fighthype mentioned earlier it was a done deal at 154. Mayweather has now confirmed that he's fighting Cotto on May 5th

I wanted Pacquiao but other than him and Martinez, Cotto at 154 is the next best thing.

Cotto is an excellent fighter no doubt, It's just always so underwhelming every time its not Pacquiao.
The times they are a changin'.

I know what he means though. Its yet another time where the fight everyone wants hasnt happened. And it was only 2 weeks ago Floyd said he didnt want Cotto. But he'll obviously now spin it as "Pacquiao fought him at catchweight, I wont, arent I great?". Not to mention him and his uncle have been saying how past it Cotto is since Pacquiao battered him.

Cotto is my favourite ever fighter though and he's a live underdog though he wont win. Should have happened 5 years ago this.

This has no doubt pissed on Manny's chips as well.

Aside from JMM IV there's not alot out there for Manny.

A catch weight fight against Alvarez?

Yep Chris - kind of what i was getting at, but I was on my phone and couldn't be bothered typing it all out. I like watching Mayweather fight and will watch it, but this doesn't seem like its going to be any real challenge for him.

Everybody wants to see him fight Pacq, but both of them seem to be saving it for right at the very ends of their careers - a banker when they are well past their best. Every fight either one of them announces that isn't against each other is all a bit "meh"

I honestly wouldn't be surprised now to see Mayweather stay at 154, fight Martinez and Canelo (in whatever order) then retire. I just don't see the Pacquiao fight happening whilst Arum is still around. He is already talking about November but you just know Arum will come out with another excuse. I find it funny how quick a fight with Mayweather and Cotto was put together now that Cotto is no longer with Arum. It's a fight that should have happened years ago but it doesn't take a genius to work out why that didn't happen, espeically as Cotto was undefeated at the time. It's yet another example of Arum protetcting his cash cow fighters at top rank.

Personally, I think Martinez at 154 or 160 (unlikely Floyd would move that high up in weight) would be a much harder fight than a fight with Pacquaio at 147.imo.

I agree Daniel everyone wants to see the fight happen. The good thing is more and people are starting to realise that Arum is the main reason why the fight has yet to happen. He is a protective freak and wants to keep all the money in house. He would much rather see two top rank fighters fight against each other. Manny is also his cash cow so a loss for him would be very bad for Arum. The sad thing is Manny doesn't seem to realise what Arum is doing and hides behind him.imo. Bob Arum's latest antics were farcical. Ask yourself why Arum was ready to put a Manny and Marquez fight together on May 5th when he knew Floyd would be serving a prison sentence in January. However, the minute Floyd was successful in delaying his sentence (and called out Manny for a May 5th fight), Bob came out with the excuse about Manny's eye not healing and that he needs to get a temparary stadium built to stage the fight but it would have to take place in June? He knows full well Mayweather has to turn himself in on June 1st He also knows that Mayweather already had contractural agreements in place in terms of the venue so it's not a case of just changing the date. The bottom line is Bob wants no part of Mayweather and will continue making excuses but appear as though he wants to fight to happen.

Awesome mate, well in. Might go myself, will have to check the cash flow in March time. Cotto is my favourite ever fighter and I'm not sure he'll fight again if/when he loses here so desperate to see him.

So, it's confirmed that boxnation will be showing the Mayweather v Cotto fight (as well as the already announced Chisora v Klitschko fight). Can't say I am happy about this. I just don't understand why Sky didn't push for this fight because they could easily have outbid boxnation. It would also have been in HD too. What I'm annoyed about is the fact that you cannot just pay a one off £10 subscription fee and then cancel at the end of the month. You're tied to a 3 month contract (it's been reduced from 6 ) which means paying £30 just to watch Mayweather v Cotto.

What other good fights are boxnation showing besides the two I mentioned? Pretty sure they have the Stieglitz v Kessler fight Not sure if they have announced whether Hopkins v Dawson will be on the channel.

The only way Box Nation is an option for me is if they have at least 2 big fights a month. There not going to do that, so its pointless.

Sky didn't bid for it because there wasn't money in it for them. They have cut back drastically on boxing recently, a lot of it being on Sky Sports.
