Which is a damning statement in itself as the current crop of cruiser strap holders are not of the same calibre as years gone by.

Drozd has a horribly padded record and is reluctant to fight outside of Russia. Think it has been 6 or 7 years since he fought outside of Russian soil.

Lebedev is another homebird who would be a bit better than Drozd in my eyes, but his name was made by beating a 42 year old Roy Jones jnr and a 43 year old Jame Toney.

Huck is a solid all rounder, but would be a make up the numbers boxer had it not been for the division being so light in genuine talent.

Hernandez is a tidy boxer but carries no power of note. He is a crusier with the punch power of a light middleweight. In terms of technique and rings skills he is probably the best of the four.

Wouldn't mind seeing Bellew in with Lebadev.

Think Lebadev would batter him silly.

Bob Arum on Pacquiao-Mayweather fight: 'No more excuses'

        November 23, 2014 5:54pm

MACAU — Moments after Manny Pacquiao's successful defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown, his promoter Bob Arum revealed that he will sit down and wait for his phone to ring.

Arum, the 82-year old Top Rank CEO, said the much-awaited fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather is just a phone call away after the eight-division world champion dominated Chris Algieri in a 12-round showdown Sunday at the Cotai Arena inside The Venetian here.

"People are asking me what will I do after the fight," he said during the post-fight press conference. "With this fight over, I will sit down and answer the telephone. As simple as that. I think the fight should happen and all the non-sense has to cease."

The Pacquiao-Mayweather affair has been a raging issue for the past five years. But with the Mayweather camp throwing various obstacles ranging from drug testing to division of the purse, not to mention personal grudges, negotiations have repeatedly collapsed, with both fighters settling for other opponents.

And with Pacquiao scoring a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Algieri, Arum said it's now safe to say that his next opponent will be Mayweather in the biggest, richest fight in the history of the sport.

"There is no more excuses," he said. "I will sit next to my phone starting tomorrow and wait for a call that will change the course of boxing history. We're all ready. There's no reason not to get it done."

Arum, in a statement earlier this week, revealed that a distinguished group of businessmen, led by CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves, is seriously brokering a deal that would put the world's two most popular fighters on the same ring.

The negotiation is already in full swing and a deal is expected to be reached early next year with Moonves' Showtime entering into a pact with HBO to co-produce the fight. Mayweather has a standing contract with Showtime while Pacquiao is still under HBO.

Pacquiao agreed with Arum, saying that the fight should happen, not for him, but for millions of fans who have raised a strong clamor.

"People deserve the fight," said Pacquiao, a slugger who perfectly complements Mayweather's defense-oriented ring tactic. "This fight deserves to happen. It's been a long time. So many people have already been asking for it."

Then, as Arum takes back the microphone, Pacquiao butted in and unleashed a dialogue taken from his latest television commercial about a possible fight with Mayweather.

        "What, he's fighting me!?"

        Then, he laughed.

Obviously, he is happy with the way things are panning out.

Call me naive but I really think this fight is going to happen now. May 2nd 2015 we'll finally see the fight take place imo

If they met I would be hoping for the same thing to happen, but Lebadev is not a big puncher and has a bad habit of getting drawn into fighting the other boxer's game when a bout is close.

Hernandez is the one I would like to see Bellew in with despite Hernandez being feather fisted. He is a technically sound boxer who is elusive and good at totting up the points thanks to having quick hands and good reflexes. Could see him frustrating Bellew and making Bellew look a right mug in the ring (Bellew needs no help outside the ring on that score )

            Bellew's off to Hollywood...

Boxer Tony Bellew is off to Hollywood after landing a starring role in a spin-off of the popular Rocky movies.

The cruiserweight fighter, who defeated arch rival Nathan Cleverly at the ECHO Arena on Saturday, is ready to sign up for the film called Creed.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, the movie focuses on the grandson of Apollo Creed - Rocky’s rival in the award winning films - with Bellew set to play the part of his opponent Pretty Boy Porter.

Bellew, 31, confirmed that he is ready to sign a contract to appear in the film and will fly to the US next month to begin over 40 days of filming.

Creed also sees Sly Stallone, as Rocky Balboa, train Creed’s grandson for a grudge match with Bellew’s character.

And although the ‘Bomber’ did not reveal any details of the film, he confirmed: “I’ve got an assignment next in Hollywood.

“I’ve got business in Hollywood in December.”

Bellew was quizzed about the rumours in midweek but rubbished them and said: “It wasn’t important in the week.

“All I know is that I’m close to agreeing to it and I’ve been sought after for quite some time.”

Bellew said he refused to put pen to paper until his rematch with Cleverly was over.

That's incredible. I can't believe how cringeworthy Froch has is.

Cant stand Gareth A Davies usually but he's spot on, yeah Groves takes a few swipes and asks for a 3rd fight often enough but Froch won both yet speaks badly about Groves every week, refuses to analyse his fights properly on Sky because he's a petty bellend etc etc. You won both man, just laugh it off!!

A good friend of mine used to be in his cricket team. Apparently he's a psycho. I've heard they were losing one day and he punched a hole in the dressing room wall during the lunch break in an attempt to 'motivate' the team.

Sykes v Walsh could be a cracker too. Really cant wait, it's a brilliant card. Think Gavin v Skeete will stink the place out for the casuals who want a mega ruck but it'll be a really fascinating tactical battle.
