Haye and Fury open talks over a potential blockbuster heavyweight clash.
David Haye and Tyson Fury have opened negotiations over a spectacular Battle of Britain.
The heavyweight rivals are discussing a potential clash before the end of the year.
Talks are at an early stage – but both men are keen to secure a date for the biggest domestic showdown since Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank fought at a packed out Old Trafford in 1993.
Sky have also earmarked Haye-Fury as a huge pay-per-view opportunity, as the satellite broadcaster makes tentative steps towards reintroducing boxing to its Box Office line-up.
Carl Froch’s rematch with Mikkel Kessler on May 25 is the first pay-per-view fight on Sky since Haye’s unanimous points defeat to Wladimir Klitschko in 2011.
A clash between the Hayemaker and Fury is seen as another contest worthy of Box Office billing.
Haye has had to postpone his June 29 comeback against Manuel Charr because of an injured hand.
It is not clear whether that fight – which was set to take place at the Manchester Arena – will be rescheduled or scrapped altogether.
Fury is also in negotiations with Kubrat Pulev over a final eliminator for the IBF title, which would also see the European belt on the line.
Tomasz Adamek is another name being considered by Fury’s camp, as they look to get the undefeated 24-year-old back in the ring in June or July.
A clash with Haye is seen as a potential fight for later in the year – but much will depend on the speed at which negotiations gather pace.
Fury’s uncle and trainer Peter Fury insists nothing has been agreed between the two camps.
But the very fact that talks are on-going represents a significant step forward.
Haye said in January that he had no intention of facing either of his leading British rivals Fury or David Price, and would instead concentrate on the Klitschko brothers.
The former WBA champion changed his tune this month, claiming Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy had rejected a potential fight.
Peter Fury insists his nephew – who collected his 21st professional win against Steve Cunningham at New York's Madison Square Garden last month – is not avoiding anyone.
“We are in talks with them over a possible fight later on in the year,” he said. "We are up to fight David Haye and he’s up to fight us. It looks positive.
“We are definitely looking for big fights for Tyson now. I think David Haye and Tyson Fury is the biggest none world title fight out there in the heavyweights.
“If it can be made then we are all for it, but it is a long, long way from being there. No figures are being discussed yet.
Fury – an ardent United fan – says it his dream to fight at Old Trafford and believes that he would end Haye’s career if they ever stepped into the ring together.
His uncle added: “Tyson is ready for anyone. People have not seen the best of him.
“He’s improved a lot and he is ready to step up. He’s 25 this year, he’s maturing all the time and he’s still got time on his side.
“He is the man to fight and the man to beat.
“I see a fight with Haye as a big fight. Haye is very popular –
“It’s definitely a good clash – a major none world title showdown for somewhere like Manchester or London.”Comment

Pointless fight, would be over as soon as Haye connects properly. Though not pointless for their bank balances of course.
