Middleweight boxer Nick Blackwell has been put in an induced coma after suffering a bleed to the brain following a match with Chris Eubank Jr to defend his middleweight title.
The fight at Wembley Arena was stopped in the 10th of 12 scheduled rounds after the ringside doctor said Blackwell was unable to continue due to swelling over his left eye.
Reporter George Gigney for Boxing News Online had already suggested the match needed to end during round seven: “His trainer, Gary Lockett, must surely consider pulling [Blackwell] out.
“Eubank landed countless uppercuts in that round and Blackwell’s punches lack snap now.”
Gigney described Blackwell’s eye as “grotesquely swollen”, and reported that Blackwell collapsed shortly after the fight and received oxygen before being carried on a stretcher.

Fingers crossed for the lad. He was getting by on sheer guts from about the sixth or seventh round.
Wonder if his corner left it go on so long because he would have kept the Lonsdale belt had he won. Regardless of that it is on the corner to protect their man and gutsy ****ers need that call from their corner more than most.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Hope he makes a swift recovery, cannot understand how his corner let it go on so long. Too much pride sometimes"Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

I think the corner were just as much if not more as at fault as the ref. The ref actually made a good shout in getting the fight stop by having the doctor look at the swelling over the eye.
Hennessy didn't help the beady eyed cunt, could see he was spitting feathers at the fact he was losing. The times they are a changin'.

It wasn't clear the lad was in trouble but he was clearly losing. In the Benn/McClellan fight if you watch it back you can see McClellan was clearly in distress with breathing and blinking whereas Blackwell was just badly beaten up.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostI'm reading alot of stuff this morning about how the ref should have stopped it sooner as it was clear the lad was in trouble. I didn't see the fight but if anyone did what was your take on it?
That said, after the sixth there were definite times where Blackwell was on the ropes and you wondered if a towel or the ref was going to come in.
In the end i doubt he could see out of that eye without lifting his head which is why the doctor called an end to it.
I saw that and i think Eubank Snr was just telling him that throughout the fight, "go to the trunk and the tree will fall." The fella Blackwell has an unbelievable chin on him - he must have been hit by about 20 uppercuts andOriginally posted by Leyton388 View Posthttps://touch.facebook.com/story.php...20041754909810
Fair play to Eubank Snr there. Telling him not to hit him in the head might have saved the lads life.
i reckon he could have taken a whole lot more.
