Seems to be a difference of opinion on how CM did.

I've always seen this as an easy fight for GGG stylistically. He hasn't looked very good in his last few fights thought, so i'm starting to question him a little. Generally guys do step up in the big fights and I'm hoping he's at his best.

People always speak about Canelo's power but he hasn't knocked out anyone of note. He bangs a bit but he's definitely not a huge puncher. Kirkland, Angulo and Cintron are good stoppages but all 3 were years passed their prime. When he's not at his best he plods a bit and fighters with good boxing IQ make him look pretty ponderous.

Golovkin has a great amateur pedigree and controls distance superbly. People think of him as just a puncher but he's the full package. I'm pretty confident he can and dare i say will win by stoppage. I've lost a lot of respect for Alvarez and Oscar for hiding behind catchweights for so long plus not defending the title to fight smaller men.

Don't think it will be an easy fight stylistically and think Canelo will cause him a lot of problems.

GGG has aged a bit in the ring and his timing has been that fraction off for a few fights now. You can see the shoulder dip, you can see the head movement, you can see the feint and you can see the shot cock when the other fighter does something to trigger those movements, but, and it is a biggie, there seems to be that slight delay now between that trigger and the actual action, meaning he is being hit more now or firing a fraction slower so the other guy is not caught clean.

Against Brook and Jacobs he just looked a bit off and whilst Jacobs in particular is a good boxer/fighter, I think the GGG of a few years back would have stopped Brook earlier and would have stopped Jacobs rather than it going to a UD.

I still think he has enough to beat Canelo, but it could be a grind of a fight for long stretches and truth be told I am expecting it to be.

My feeling is that Canelo and his people have put off fighting GGG until they saw a decline in his abilities and that is the driving force behind them being willing to take this fight on now.

For me GGG is still a top drawer fighter and a top drawer boxer who does not get the credit he deserves for his technical ability and spatial awareness in the ring due to his finishing ability, but I think he has dropped down to being top drawer after having been Elite.

For me he is at the stage Hagler was at when Hagler fought and beat Mugabi, Hearns and Hamsho (second fight). As in still a top guy, still capable of beating the other top guys, but not the near perfect mix of power, timing, balance, technique, and grace he once was.

I still pick GGG for the win, late round TKO I suspect or maybe a SD, but am not as overwhelmingly confident in doing so as I would have been only 18 months ago.

Canelo for me, just. GGG has looked on the wain in his last couple of fights, though I'm not sure how much we can read into the Brook fight and how seriously he took it.

The fight against Jacobs I think was more telling. Full training camp, a good opponent and on the back of the sort of performance that should have had GGG with a point to prove.

I fully believe that two years ago he would have put Jacobs away within six to eight rounds. Jacobs is a good fighter but not the kind that takes an Elite guy the distance imho.

Plus Canelo I think gets underated qute a bit. He is not as one dimensional as he often gets called. He is a nice boxer puncher who makes very few mistakes for the other guy to work off of and he is patient in how he times guys. His counter punching ability should mesh very well with GGG's more technical style and GGG's willingness to soak up a shot to land a shot.

Am expecting a fight that will be great for fans to watch but maybe not the spectacle that would capture the imagination of casual watchers. Hope I am wrong though and we get a barnstormer

GGG will be back with a great performance & a mid to late stoppage. Canelo isnt as good as he thinks imo.

Joshua fighting Pulev next, confirmed for late October. Pulev will do well to go 4 rounds.

Shaggy is spot on, four rounds would be an achievement for Pulev.

Listening to Adam Smith on SSN speaking about Joshua, talking up Pulev. It always makes me laugh how you get journos like Smith in boxing. They have this huge hard on for the sport and are 'experts' but have never done anything other than watch it. There isn't enough money in the world that would trigger them to step into the ring and they've never trained fighters from a technical side. It's like boxing is the only sport in the world where you get this type of journalist as the face. Clueless ****s like Jim Lampley have made a name from the sport. It doesn't always sit right with me. Especially when they start talking about the psychology, heart, fitness, chin etc of the fighters. I hate it that the public identify non fighting men with the sport.

When I was younger I had some amateur fights and sparred hundreds, maybe thousands of rounds - I don't think that qualifies me at all understand what happens in world championship bout, but people like me can at least relate. There is zero chance that Larry Merchant knows the feeling where he's so exhausted and can't lift his hands and it's easier to get punched in the face than it is to lift your arms to block or move to slip them. Yet, he'll stand there so smug after a KO and ask the defeated boxer if his chin is **** because he got KO'd or dropped. The one which stands in my mind the most is when Sergio Martinez knocked out Paul Williams with the most vicious left handed counter punch i've ever seen and one of those pricks at HBO asked Williams in the post fight interview what went wrong because his chin is usually great... It's like the Martinez tapped him and he fell down for no reason.

Is this me or does it frustrate others too?
