Yep, what an effort by England. Showed great spirit.

Where are England touring this summer?

We got a four match series in India this winter.

      Another defeat then.

Although they've lost Laxman as well now.

A disgrace that this was only 3 Tests. Got loads of ****ing ****e ODIs and T20s now FFS.

      New Zealand away in March.

        Never mind.

Agree that this should have been a 5 test series, ridiculous that the top 2 teams have to play a best of 3.

T20 world cup is this year so the T20 games should be interesting, and exciting as usual. Personally speaking, I love the limited over games.

They're exciting but let's face it it's nothing compared to Test cricket. Today was another great example. You can't beat Test cricket.

Each to their own, but I honestly do prefer the T20 and ODIs. Used to love Test Matches but tbh I don't have the stamina to follow the 5 day game any more.

Edit - Love watching the end of Test Matches like todays though!

Well put it this way, the amount of cricket I now get the time to watch is very limited (no pun intended!) so I prefer the shorter more exciting and explosive versions of teh game. On an International level I might add.

You can just watch a couple of sessions here and there when the Test matches are on. Whenever there's a result producing pitch, Test matches give me a hard on

Esp. when tests end in like 3-4 days with a lot of wickets falling and the bowlers wreaking havoc.

I love test cricket, I've been watching it my whole life, I don't give ODI/T20 the time of day and this match showed why. That was a fantastic pitch, which I don't say often for lords, but it represented an excellent value of contest between bat and ball.

England really gave it a go, I'm surprised they got so close, illustrates the change in mentality over these last few years, guys believe they can chase big scores in unfavourable positions.

It's been a great series and I've really enjoyed it.

Too close to give that out.
You're right, but for the record if it were a South African batsmen... say, Kallis or Rudolph there's no doubt they'd have been shafted.

                        No surprise here
Kevin Pietersen left out of England's World Twenty20 squad

Kevin Pietersen has been left out of England's World Twenty20 15-man squad and one-day series against South Africa.

The 32-year-old was dropped for the third Test against South Africa after allegedly insulting his England team-mates in texts to the tourists.

Pietersen apologised for the messages, admitting they were "provocative".

He had previously retired from limited-overs internationals, but made himself available in a surprise U-turn.

England play five one-day internationals against the Proteas - the first on 24 August in Cardiff - before they commence the defence of their World Twenty20 crown in Sri Lanka.

Pietersen was out for a golden duck to the left-arm spin of Hampshire's Liam Dawson playing for Surrey on his only appearance since being dropped from the Test side, but averages 41.84 in one-day internationals.

He was named player of the tournament in England's victory in the inaugural World Twenty20 in 2010 with an average of 62 in six innings.

But he was left out of the initial 30-man squad for this year's tournament which was announced during his short-lived retirement from shorter formats.

Prior has to be a bit gutted he was left out of the T20 side.

That's a mistake leaving KP out of the WC squad. Captain and KP need to sit down together and sort it out.

ECB are a bunch of nobs, so they should be in good company with KP.
