    Vice maybe Broad?

Thing is I haven't got a clue who is coming through, could Bell play as an opener? I don't think he's a natural to face the new ball. Must have someone coming though. The Aussies changed as you said with Hayden, used to be 200 (ish) was a par score for a day these days you need to be pushing 300, I worry with Cook and Trott if they got in they'd not score quickly enough.

Its got to be Bell then? He has done it before, and does it for the ODI side too.
      *Except Michael, who died.

I would guess Bell to move up aswell.

Or they could push Prior up and go T20 on it

Be interesting to see if they look to bring in an all rounder now or maybe move toward 5 bowlers as a couple of spaces are going to be available with no Strauss or KP

Bell wants to bat at 3, a possibility if Trott moves up. But for reasons already mentioned I don't want Trott to open. It'd cause more problems than it solves. He's doing very well (albeit a bit less well lately) at no.3 so we should leave him there. What if he opens and does badly?

Trott does give a nice left-hand/right-hand combo though, but we'd just score too slowly.

I say leave Trott at 3. So much hinges on what happens with KP, too. If we lose both him & Strauss the batting order suddenly becomes a hell of a lot weaker. We should look to keep the upheaval and amount of changes to a minimum. Leave Bell at 5, Trott at 3. Get a new opener, hopefully fix the Pietersen situation and we'll be okay.

It will be interesting to see how this situation is played out if England continue to falter.

I think SKY have a massive Pietersen agenda, and have pushed it for years, its not like team mates not getting on is exactly unique in sport.

These are the batting averages, sorry for this **** cut and paste.

I know Compton is highly rated at Somerset.

I would like to see us get Woakes into the team he could potentially be a very good all rounder and we have a spot open at 6/7.

Athers and Trescothick have both been on SSN - separately - and they both gave the same answer as to who the next opener in line is - Joe Root.

I've had to look him up

Joseph Edward Benedict Sebastian Rupert Root (born 30 December 1990, Dore, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England) is an English first-class cricketer, who plays for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. He is a classically elegant, right-handed opening batsman and useful occasional off-spinner, much in the mould of former England captain Michael Vaughan. Root is a fan of Vaughan, and has earmarked him as the player he wants to emulate.[1]
Both Root and Vaughan learnt their trade at Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club, and Vaughan is known to be a fan of his protégé

He has toured with the Lions and has got a decent average based on those figures.

                        Of course he would be

I dont know if they would risk such an inexperienced player in such a tough tour. India is not the nicest place to go for the most experienced pros.

It's a very tricky situation though. Rookies have got to start somewhere but you'd prefer if it wasn't India

There must be some mistake. It appears as though he was born in England.
