    Cooke

Bell was also a possibility but he has shown some good character recently.

I guess that Collingwood would probably get dropped but why should he?

Vaughan has a lot of batting to do before he should displace a current batsman... unless he opens?

I don't think he'd make a better 3/4/5 than we have at the moment but if Strauss and golden boy continue as they are perhaps they are the ones who should be worried?

Cooke's technique is flawed outside off stump and the aussie bowlers have him figured out. If anyone were to go I'd like it to be him. I like him as a player but I think he needs a bit of work.

I'd keep Colly in for the way he takes on warne. Warne doesn't like getting hit back over his head, he like to beat the bat.

cook is a bit like tresco has been badly exposed by the aussie bowlers,
so guys what is going to happen tonight can england bowl the aussies out below eng score

Good analogy with Tresco. I think Golden boy will improve though and has a good future. I am genuinely worried about Strauss' form at the moment though - he just doesn't seem to be able to keep concentrating and I'm guessing that's harder to put right than a flaw in technique. Remember when he first started in the test side, he was like a barnacle - what's going on there?

As for bowling out the Aussies tonight - yes. The wicket should start to wear soon (but hopefully not too quickly) and then I just hope that Warne doesn't take the team apart in the second innings.

What kind of lead do you think we will need to make a game of it?

we need a lead of at least 350, for the final day and hope the indifferent bounce will help harmison

350 is a bit pessimistic isn't it? I know they can knock it about but only about 270 a day scored so far and day 5 it should be harder? I was guessing 250 would be enough for them to have a crack at the total and give the bowlers an opening. If it were 350 don't you think they'd just shut up shop and go for a draw?

                      Definitely!

Flintoff has a bit of a hold on Gilchrist though he is dangerous.
I like M Clarke but he lacks the concentration to put in a dogged innings.
Warne Lee McGrath and S.Clarke are all tired after 2 days in the field, we'll soon polish them off.

I think we'll have a 130-170 innings lead and then we'll bat for the rest of the day. Blast them out on the 5th day

Clarky can dig in, he has matured alot in recent series.

Gilly is due a big innings, if he can see off Freddys bowling he will score some runs.

Lee and Clarke can bat a bit mate, they wont be easy to get out.

Well done to Collingwood by the way great knock that, aswell as Pietersen. He introduced some life into the game......i thought the Poms were trying to bore us to death and then knick the ashes

I didn't notice a lot more runs being scored by your lot in the day

I'd love to see England winning this one, but I'm afraid unless they dismiss Australia and make them follow on there is no chance of that happening

England dont have bowlers to exploit the conditions on the last two days.

How Monty is not playing is beyond me.

Giles cost England the Game. The runs Ponting scored after being dropped and more importantly, the time he occupied the crease, will prove the difference in this one

The difference is that England need to win this game a lot more than Australia does.

After 550 in first innings by England, best Australia could hope for is the draw. They had no need to bat fast. Avoiding the follow on and occupying the crease is their only concern

Good points - I think I was reacting to the 'slur' rather than thinking things through. But, and there is always one, perhaps the wicket is a bit too slow to score quickly? To be honest I also thought that the Aussie bowling was not all that bad until they got really attacked at which point they reacted a bit like a rabbit in headlights.

Having said that, the Aussie press doesn't seem too optimistic of getting a draw so I'm still hopeful.
