Sounds like they've made an arrest for that crash.

2 stage wins for Mark Cavendish. One of the greatest sporting comebacks. 6 months ago, no team, no sponsor. 5 years since his last stage win in the tour. Fighting depression, injury and illness. Now only 2 wins off the great Eddy Mercx. 5 sprint stages left, he couldn't could he? Stories and emotions make sport great, something they've removed from football of late.

Anyone wish to explain how the scoring works for the tour?

If you've won 2nd most stages in history then surely you've got to have won a couple of tours along the way?

Time - Cavendish is a sprinter, wins flat stages and the green ‘points’ jersey. The overall winner would take time out of him in both timetrails and mountain stages

                      Not at all.

Yellow Jersey Winner - this is the guy that wins the overall race. You don't need to win a day's stage to win the overall race. You have to be consistently up there. Each team will normally have a overall leader. Someone that is good at most aspects but never a pure sprinter. Overall the days it's accumulated time that wins the race. Each member of the team will work for the leader to get him out of trouble and lead out for him.

King of the Mountains - these guys are the best at the climbs so tend to be the lightest in the team. In each days stage there are lines whereby the top 3 accumulate points as they reach the top of that particular climb. A race within a race. A mountain expert can win the overall tour as on a few days these guys can gobble up time on their competitors.

Green Jersey - these are the sprinters. Much more bulk and muscle than the others. They can't win without the help of their team. They stay on the wheel of their lead out in the team and come into their own over the last half mile. These guys are ones at the danger end, peddling flat out wheel to wheel. Cavendish is one of these. He can't win the tour, he loses too much in the Mountain stages. Again Each day there are races within races to gain points. A sprinter cannot win the race just like Linford Christie couldn't win a marathon.

It's only gone and done it! Equalled the record with his 34th stage win. This could be up there with the greatest sporting comeback ever.

Equalled Eddy Merckx’s record of most race wins in the TDF.

Just needs to dig really deep in the pyrenees and he has two chances to beat the record. I think it could be set up for a final day special. He's won the last stage I Paris 4 times already, what a fitting place to do it!

Cavendish is a sprinter, battles for the green jersey on flat stages. Sprinters can't keep up in hilly stages usually, due to their physique which is mainly purely built for power.

A tour de France winner (yellow jersey) is the better all rounder, but more importantly they are the fastest in terms of general time it takes to finish the whole tour, so the general classification is the most important and prestigious of them all.
