Hmm, that's tricky. My view is most people buy bikes that are too big for them (I certainly did) so if you feel it is, then it probably is.

What happens if you decide it is too big? Can you (a) easily return it and (b) get a slightly smaller one, i.e. a 17"?
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I can return it yes, but it would be a hassle and would cost me £30 I think.

When I spoke to the shop I ordered it from, they asked my height and told me that Cube bikes come up small and that they always recommend the 20" for anyone over 5' 10" which I am. So the next one down would be 18".

I suspect I'd feel more comfortable with that one but as I said it'll be a pain to change it. FFS.

Can't try it outside if I want to send it back, and only have a small living room to attempt to try it in

Don't know what to do. ****ing bikes

20"? FFS, bike shops are so useless.

Just have a look at these:

Make the adjustments you can and if it still feels too big, bite the bullet and swap it for an 18".

I'd also ask for the cost of carriage since you only bought the wrong size on their recommendation.

You clearly need to take a photo of you sat on it and post on her for Neil to inspect and the rest of us to laugh at

I know my "lowering the seat comment" was slightly in jest , but looking at that seat in the Youtube clip surely if you have the seat raised THAT much you can just lower it a touch and the bike would be a better fit? Or is it not as simple as that?

It would probably help but ultimately no, it's not that simple.

You've ballsed this up Reecie, even with the help of experts like foggy, myself and possibly Neil, you've still managed to balls this up.

Yeah I think the seat height I have is fine, it's just the clearance height that worries me. Most places seem to recommend ~2" for MTBs, but don't think I've got that. Although I have a really large penis which might affect that measurement somewhat.

I feel your pain. It's the reason why I can't ride a bike at all.

Cool. Glad you never went for the Specialized. I have one and its a piece of **** with poor quality forks on it - its like riding a bouncy castle or a water bed or something. The forks are bouncy bouncy and they can't even be adjusted. ****ing crap. I've only ridden it about 5 times and was going to offer it for sale to you, but make out it was just amazing.

Somebody else posted a Cannondale hybrid - great choice. Its pretty much the same as mine.

I hired one of these for chucking myself down mountains. It was cool as ****

Cheers, but I reckon I'd look like a clown riding a bike your size

I've been doing some geometry comparisons, and for example the measurements of my Cube 20" lie kind of in-between the Specialized Rockhopper Comp 17.5" and 19.5", so I guess that ties in with what the guy said to me about them coming up short.

I spent hours last night researching sizing etc, I.E. the recommended length of the top tube using your elbow from the saddle to your fingers on the handlebar and all that ****. Everything seems to suggest it is actually an okay size for me. I think it all just feels alien because I haven't sat on a bike for over 10 years!

Think I'm going to keep it in which case my first ride will be Saturday morning.

My boney arse actually hurts just from sitting on it in my front room. Think I'm going to have to get a different saddle

Get a gel saddle to put over the current one
