Ah okay, Cycling is pretty big where my ass is parked, and the news/rumours of Armstrong being doped have been running for the past 5-6 years with some big names coming out against him, so I'm not the slightest surprised. Just assumed it had been running at the same pace everywhere else because of his name in sport

It's very disappointing despite its inevitablity.
      3rd place. Worst champions ever.

        Yep.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

So have they disclosed how he managed to get away with it for so long then?

The stuff posted above is all a bit vague. Of course, there will be more detail in the 1000 page report.
          Oh I don't know.

It seems as though he might receive slightly more credibility if he just confesses now.

Did'nt realise that after all this, Nike came out today and totally backed him, saying they'll be continuing sponsorship etc.

Hmmm, wonder what he has on them ?

Obviously still pulling in the $$$.

Doesn't look good for Nike to stop backing his charity though does it? If anything, that will go some way to help him preserve some sort of legacy.

                    Neil, neillllllll

I read something today that suggested that this will destroy cycling as a sport and a lot of people will turn their backs on it, but someone came up with the counter argument that it will make it better because the doping could be clamped down on.

                    Thoughts?

I think it's a necessary process to go through but, if this scandal is the last big one, as well as being the biggest then I think it will survive without any significant problems globally. I don't think American cycling is going to go well for a while although any major success of someone like Van Garderen may lessen the impact.

It will be interesting to see what comes out about the UCI. There are clearly some big problems there.

What if it isn't the last big scandal, and another quite big, but not as big scandal comes along in 3 years time?

I mean, on the scale of big, this is gargantuan. As big as it gets. Bigger than Ben Johnson.
                        Oh I don't know.

Is it really cheating when all your rivals are cheating too? It's wrong but regardless of the doping these guys still put in the miles and worked their arses off. What kind of % increase does it give you for cycling? The pressure to win must come from the teams and the coaches who are paid by them.

It's good it's out in the open. The sport will continue to thrive.

Is it likely that he'll get sued?

I'm not sure how cycling works, but I would guess the winner gets £££, second place ££ and third place £ etc. Will the people who finished below Armstrong on each race sue him for loss of earnings?

There was talk this morning on the Radio about him being taken to court in order to get back the £7m he won from prize money.

But I guess if they do that, they would have to do the same to all the others. In which case the UCI will be loaded for years to come if they win.
