He probably will get nominated by someone and there's a long time between now and the election towards the end of September. But it would be good news if he went.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Did you see Froome saying he wants to contend for the Tour for the next six or seven seasons? It made me start to think twice about Wiggins. He's not finished if he doesn't want to be but look at how his main contacts in the hierarchy - Yates and Sutton - have moved on, Froome and Porte are on the up, etc. And that story we pooh-poohed was by William Fotheringham and, while we can['t be sure about the story, he does know a thing or two about pro cycling.

And now today it's reported in The Times that Froome has been offered a contract extension, suggesting Sky are building the team around him (and Porte). They're speculating again about Wiggins' future.

Wiggins has a future if he wants it but even if he does it may not be at Sky.

The Swiss are apparently backing him, he needs to go out with the old and in with the new; no doubts on corruption hanging over their heads or accusations hanging around them.

I hadn't seen that but then again I am not surprised really, what's Froome 27/28? He's been backed this season and seemingly regardless of Wiggins fitness he was going to be the leader for the tour this season, he certainly should be feeling in a pretty strong position that he's going to be backed on the whole by the Sky team.

Wiggins certainly isn't finished but he might need to move to another team looking at that with a team that's going to be built entirely around him, I mean Cav had to leave due to Sky having differing priorities to him it.

I guess from a pure longevity stance Froome & Porte will likely have more chances than Wiggins to win grand tours, saying that if Sky do back them over Wiggins it's a pretty bloody hard line to have taken.

This was quite funny from the tour de Suisse.

I've never seen that happen before.

I was watching it last night and saw it happening, not sure they were too happy!

Sir Bradley Wiggins says he may not compete in the Tour de France again.

Wiggins, 33, won last year's race but is unable to defend his title this year because of a knee injury.

"For me it was always about winning the Tour," he told the Guardian. "I've done that. If I'm honest I don't think I'm prepared to make those sacrifices again that I made last year.

"I've achieved what I've achieved. I'm incredibly happy with that."

Just seen the interview, it seems for the moment he's lost a bit of his drive & passion for the sport at the moment which I guess if you want to be at the top are essential ingredients, be a shame if he doesn't make concerted efforts to add to his Tour de France victory

Not a huge surprise I guess.

Jan Ullrich: Former Tour de France winner admits blood doping
Former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich has confessed to doping.

The 39-year-old German, who won the Tour in 1997, was banned for two years in February 2012 by the Court of Arbitration for Sport for blood doping and he has now admitted his guilt.

Ullrich also revealed he was treated by Eufemiano Fuentes, the doctor at the centre of a doping scandal in Spain.
"Almost everybody back then took performance-enhancing substances," he told German magazine Focus.

"I didn't take anything which the others were not taking."

Ullrich, who retired in 2007 insisting he had "never once cheated as a cyclist", also won gold and silver medals at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

He added in the Focus interview: "For me, betrayal only begins when I gain an advantage, but that was not the case. I just wanted to ensure equal opportunities."

Fuentes was found guilty in April 2013 of playing a role in supplying blood transfusions to professional cyclists. Samples of Ullrich's blood were found during a police raid on the Spanish doctor.

Ullrich's admission is another damaging blow to cycling's reputation following Lance Armstrong admitting that he had used performance-enhancing drugs during all seven of his Tour de France wins.

"We are both guilty," said Ullrich, whose results since May 2005 have been annulled.

"I am no better than Armstrong, but no worse either.

"The great heroes of old are now people with failings that we've got to come to terms with.

"I always knew that even Lance Armstrong would not get away with it."

Yes, it does seem Wiggins has lost his drive, just as he did after Athens. Maybe he'll get it back again but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. I can't think what else he might want to go for.

Says he's concentrating on the World Time Trials later this year; seems strange though he thinks it's going to be tough to get himself up to win another GT after only winning one!

I wonder if he's been told he's no longer going to be the main man at Sky

I don't think Sky would tell him that mainly because they'd be more than happy if he came back to challenge and surpass Froome. They don't care who it is, they just want the best option.

I reckon he doesn't need to be told. He thinks he can't beat Froome and, unless it's a TT-heavy GT course with only long, gradual climbs, he can't.
