It doesn't look good that he's doing badly but there's nothing to say Compton wouldn't have carried on failing. In fact I'm sure he would've done.

Possibly, but it was harsh seen as though he did quite well in quite a few innings and had a few dodgy ones which got him the axe. Also, think it would have been better for Root's development in Test Cricket to keep him in the middle order for a bit longer. Was doing pretty well there, and Bairstow hasn't really done it to date

Yep fair points. I would've dropped Compton but there's no easy solution.

Their intensity seems much greater than ours.
