Massive dilemma - do I take my kid out for the day in the sunshine or do I say "go and play in your room" while I watch cricket indoors all day?

              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Sit down in front of the TV with him playing boardgames. Crickets fantastic for that, you can hear whats happening and look up when it matters.

Quality time with the kid, and still watch the cricket.

                      Win / win.

Of course sunshine isn't such a rare and precious resource over here so not sure how well it translates
