Bizarrely I don't feel remotely arsed about this this year. It'll all about The Ashes for me. An Ashes Test at Lord's is the pinnacle and only occurs every few years. Shame they have to clash.

It's only just starting to be fair. If one of the British players, or Woods, does well and I'm sure you'll get more into it.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostBizarrely I don't feel remotely arsed about this this year. Mickelson has started pretty well (-2), but McIlroy still looks out of sorts (+1).

ryder cup is supposed to be **** to go as a live event. I certainly wouldn't pay that much for it
my dad's been a few times, says because you only have a small number of groups out on the course, that it's just carnage and really difficult to watch a decent amount of golf.
it's either get there ridiculously early to get a decent spec on one hole and then - but if you do that, that's it you only see what 8 groups playing the same hole -
or you can try and follow a match, but even the 'less' attractive matches get over crowded.
he also mentioned that the tented village areas usually aren't as good either.*i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

* tented village moves me on to something else.
i remember one of the best things about the open was going the tented village
as junior at one open when i was about 15, me and a mate spent virtually the whole day going round the village - they were huge, all the club manufactures had displays for new gear, there were demo products, plus loads of offers - used to be able to take about £100 and come away with all sorts of gear on the cheap, hats/balls/polo shirts etc as a lot of the companies either had loads of old stock they wanted rid off or they were quite clever with marketing in mind, and they knew for example, if titleist sold a hat that was normally £15, but they had a batch load that they sold for £5 - they'd sell hundreds quickly and then everyone would be wearing them, so loads of tv coverage
plus there used to be loads of other things going on, trick shot demo's, long drive or putting comps etc etc
Last year at birkdale there was **** all
the 'village' was tiny and the only stuff in there was all very over priced 'open championship' logo'd clothes and souvenirs.
i think the only things on 'sale/offer' were
an Open branded umbrella £40
3x ball markers and pitch fork £15

i heard it was some dickheads idea to start charging all the different companies a ridiculous price to exhibit there. The dickhead expected, because so many companies exhibited, that they would all pay it - they didnt - plus i also think the Open organisers put a ban on 'non-official' products
imagine that being told that the cost of stand is going up ridiculously, and on top of that you are not allowed to sell any stock/equipment/clothes etc unless you pay us to use the open logo, oh and the additional manufacturing cost you will incur to have that logo put on anything you selli own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do
