Devastating news. A sad day for sport.

This trivialises every other sporting issue and debate

      RIP Phil.

Its really sad. Really upsetting hearing people on the radio this morning fighting back tears to speak.

Very very sad, tragic news. RIP. What a wasted life, really feel for his family and colleagues.

I don't know anything about cricket and have never heard of this poor guy, but I have just read the news and I feel incredibly sad. A desperate tragedy.

                RIP Phillip Hughes.

                  ****in hell he's died ?

edit: Came here for an update, never expected that!

Quite incredible, when you see what the F1 driver Bianci's head went through, and he lived so far, it's so unlucky for Phil Hughes, the ball must really have hit a bad..sweet spot on his head to do this, shocking.

How must the bowler be feeling now too. Tragic.

Hughes suffered an 'incredibly rare' and 'very freakish' condition, known as 'vertebral artery dissection'.

Dr Bruckner told reporters the artery leading from his neck into his brain had compressed, leading to a 'massive bleed' onto the brain'.

'There's only about 100 cases ever reported, so this is incredibly rare,' Dr Bruckner told reporters.

It's affected me more than any celebrity death ever has. For it to happen in such innocuous circumstances to someone who feels so much more accessible really brings it home.

Normally when people die I think 'what's all the fuss about? People are dying all the time and no one says anything, if it were me no one would care' but this has really touched me.

The only one other time I've felt a bit like this about someone I don't know is Corrie Sanders (as mentioned above) as he was shot at a relatives party for a cellphone or something ridiculous like that. The Hector Camacho one was sad, but he was a dodgy individual regardless and it wasn't really surprising news.

                            Thanks Assassin.

Yeah heard about that now, so unlucky, so unfair.

I don't follow cricket but just heard about this. Pure bad luck all round.

Still absolutely devastating. Really feel for the bowler too what a horrible horrible situation.

                              RIP.
