The Vaughan/Strauss years were easily the best when England had solid openers in the likes of Trescothick, Strauss and Cook building a solid lead. Pietersen coming in at 3 or 4 scoring fast, Vaghan, Collingwoood and Trott backing it all up. Even Bell delivering a bit of consistency.

That generation beat one of the best Aussie teams of all time, and won an away series in India FFS. No chance of that now.

If one failed, others backed it up.
