The difference in watching Root bat to all of the others is astonishing, but he cannot do it on his own.

Has to be one of the worst ever England teams. Australia have dominated pretty much every session in the Ashes so far.

My son is working down near Melbourne & he bought tickets for this test match for day 4 as his first day off work is Wednesday. The match will be all over before that at this rate.

We're going to lose by an innings bowling them out sub 300

Is England's test batting suffering a consequence of overhauling their grass roots stuff to find good ODI/T20 players?

I've absolutely no words for how bad the batting has been bar Joe Root and a couple of one-off innings from other players.

Also, side question: Are Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad toxic teammates who go their own way instead of following team plans?

There’s been a massive move towards white ball cricket to the detriment it seems of test cricket. We’re massively undercooked and have been for the most part dreadful this tour.

Aussies have been good though, played to their game plans and got the basics right.

I’ll be shocked if this isn’t a 5-0 whitewash tbh

I watched until lunch last night.

England were bowling well, but everything was in the context of that first innings. Even the Aussie commentators were almost begging for it to be a contest.

There’s probably not that much in it bowling wise, though the Aussies undoubtedly nance the more potent and balanced attack. The difference in the batting line ups is monumental.

Sticking Crawley in is really unfair on him he’s not played any Cricket.

This will 100% be 5-0. Absolutely no doubt only Australian complacency can make it other wise. It is such a massive miss-match.

Broad is a ****ing weasel for sure . Remember he was behind the mock KP Twitter account whilst they were in the same team. Plus was named in the bullying culture around that time. And together they over ruled Root in the second test for sure.

Jimmy bowled some unbelievable spells last night, he is undropable (other than to Joss Butler).

Won’t even have to stay up all that late for the end of this.

BT Sport doing their best to talk England's chances up just before the start of play.

                              an hour later......

                              61-7 Root gone
