My first sub 60min 10km. (boom).
Cheers Saveloy, and congrats on your first sub hour 10km

If you keep up that mileage you will be at 55 mins in no time.

Don't 'Hyperdrate' love that saying - means downing a **** load of water the night before. Your body doesn't have time to take it on board, just up your intake a few days before.

Also haven't read too much but if it's your first race you might want to stay off the caffeine the day before - each to their own but best to avoid until you get used to what your body likes.

Eat some carby protein the night before, something simple, chicken - tomatoes pasta that sort of thing - just something easy for your body to take on board.

Just enjoy it, i've got really nervous about races before - worrying about times, splits and PB's - the races i've enjoyed the most are the ones i've just gone with the flow!

let us know how you get on
Thanks for the advice, really useful. I've ate well and drank lots of water these past few days, and rested up and I'm really feeling the benefit of it. Looking forward to it now.

Nicely done Saveloy, racking up the miles for July already! Are you trying to lose weight or just keep fit?

I've done **** all this week, been doing tough mudder training and it's been killing me, legs aching, arms aching..everything ******* aching. Had a few rest days and back on it Sunday hopefully

Just started running myself - do you guys wear 'proper' running shorts with a lining built in? If so do you wear boxers underneath or go commando?

Lining seems to get in the way of boxers but trying none makes me feel a little bare and penis seems to bulge out a little

Think I might return to wearing football shorts and boxers for running...or just cut the lining out.

Cheers Wiw. Trying to get fit, lose weight and also trying to delay some open heart surgery that'll disappointingly be coming my way in the next couple of years. Got an exercise test coming up in Sept which I want to blitz so that they aren't tempted to get out their circular saw when's your tough mudder?

Pablo - yes I'm hoping that racking up the distance will also help to get my speed up too. I've found a flatter route as well which has helped. Good luck with the race and let us know how you get on (Rowan - is that really true about red wine and lactic acid?!)

Should really be running tonight but have opted for a glass of wine in the garden as it is a beautiful evening. definitely need to go out tomorrow.

Total schoolboy error laden run which started with me leaving my water bottle at home. Got to 11 miles and everything shutdown for the day
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Feeling it a bit. Got the strassburg sock on to stretch it out but it was bearable while running. Feel shockingly unfit though. Turned on the afterburners for a stretch where a mate had a strava segment record so I could snatch it and was totally whacked for the next mile

See you've been banking some big miles. Feeling flighty?

I've no idea what that means Flighty? And what is a strassburg sock?

it's a sock with a splint running from the toe to above the calf that you wear when sleeping to stretch out the plantar. Also been experimenting with kinsiotape (which is pretty good stuff if you have strains).

The flighty bit was the ridiculous sprint. If you use Strava as your GPS software it'll break your run (or cycle) in to segments and there are leaderboards for all users who've ran that route. Someone I went to school with (who was an utter cock) was top on one of the segments so I balls out sprinted it to knock him off the top spot. Took 15 seconds of his time but ****ed up the back end of my run in the process

                        Still, good to be back!

Southport Half Marathon done Time was pathetic to be honest (2rs22mins) but it was roasting hot, and well I'm feeling very unfit after the past month or so.

Still run your own race and all that, and that took some guts so I'm proud of myself and looking forward to getting fitter again

                              Well done mate!

Christ, must have been hard going as you haven't done much running of late.

Fair played, got mine in November the Conwy half marathon.

Need to get my finger out my bumhole and get running some more miles ha ha!!
