haha, thanks.
I personally love the change, I didn't really "notice" it until I looked back at the pics I did(I took a couple of snaps after each week to keep a diary of sorts) When I saw the change it finally struck me that I'd come pretty far and I could see light at the end of the tunnel. Many nights in November I was trying hard in the gym but not seeing results. Didn't really think it would take a few months, thought I could somehow do it in a quick way. I was wrong. it takes dedication and determination. The reason to get off my butt and into the gym? See below...and you have permission to laugh

My target was to be like the bloke out of the invictus advert. ^^ THIS GIT ^^
...why? Well I overheard my wife saying to her mate that this lad, don't actually know his name, had a body to die for. I looked down at my beer gut and something just clicked inside my head. I thought "Right...I'll phucking show her that I can be as buff as any ucnt"
Her saying that sentence played on my mind for days until I decided to get into shape (I'm 38 soon) as if I didn't...I'd NEVER be in shape. Mid life crisis no....hurt ego and dented pride...christ yes!
Now I'm doing her head in with demands...in the "bedroom" sense as I can't get enough of her. The extra hormones from working out hard, give you the horn big time and now I can lift her up and ...err...not throw her about the bedroom...more-so, move her into positions, which I couldn't do before. Come June when we go away on our proper honeymoon, I'll be down the beach without having a pair of long shorts covering the beergut and flab.
Laugh if you all want but it took this type of "de-motivation" to knock some urgency into me and get me off my rear end and into the gym. I'm lucky as I use the gym at my work for free and there is rarely anyone in using it so I can workout without waiting to use stuff that might happen in a public gym...plus it's free
I may not have a face like that guy but if I can have a good physique to match him then I'll be happy....and so will she
Beastie are you considering a shape up stint or are you ok as you are?Last edited by Subby; 11-02-14, 08:48 PM.Cheers

10.98 in just over an hour. Cardiotrainer rounded it to 11 so I will too.
So need to have music when I'm running. Takes my mind off distances and landmarks and random aches and twinges.Felching ≠ Gerbilling

Off the bottom of the table!
Nearly coughed up my innards though and I won't be using my legs much tomorrow.

Not me, I used to for a year or so but it didn't do do my blood pressure any good. I found I got light headed after doing dead lifts and other heavy weight lifts; it worried me. I now concentrate on MTB riding for cardio, and I enjoy it more, especially as I have a family history of heart disease. I found I got to level and never progressed any further
I am also at the Neil Young age of life so its not as important, especially as the wife is getting short sighted. Has the better half commented?

Get yourself on grass, run bare foot if you can - just try to avoid roads as much as possible, awkward i know but soft surfaces will help you recover faster.Originally posted by Norbs View PostI've decided, without medical advice, that I am suffering from shin splints so I won't be running again for a week or so as it's not clearing up. It's really annoying, but the pain isn't a good sign and I'm not overly keen on doing permanent damage.

I hope not!Originally posted by Alex View PostDont shin splints take about 6 months to properly heal up?
But best to rest up if you think so. I guess listening to your body is a good thing.
I did do the two 11k runs last week on mud/grass but it still hurt after. The 'quick' 5k on Friday was tarmac/concrete though and was really stupid of meOriginally posted by Carras_Shin_Pads View PostGet yourself on grass, run bare foot if you can - just try to avoid roads as much as possible, awkward i know but soft surfaces will help you recover faster.

Thats way too much if you have got splints - you just need to bide your time and let them heal - are you on your feet much during your work day? Could look at getting softer insoles for your main day shoes? all helpsOriginally posted by Norbs View PostI hope not!

Yeah, I work in the consruction industry and have done a fair bit of work in heavy safety boots recently. Kneeling (flat on shins as opposed to toes and knees) kills aswell but that pain feels more calf than shin. When I'm not working I'm usually in doors and we have stone floors at home. I thought a fair bit in the past about wearing trainers around the house to take some pressure off. I think I'll seek a professional medical opinion tooOriginally posted by Carras_Shin_Pads View PostThats way too much if you have got splints - you just need to bide your time and let them heal - are you on your feet much during your work day?
